For range fun I load Lee 175gr TC (180gr drop weight) with 8.0gr Silhouette or 10.5gr #7. I also load 190gr Cast Hollow points with 7.6gr Silhouette. All my cast bullet are coated with HI-TEK with no lube.
For SD loads I use 180gr XTP with 9.2gr Longshot. |

I have some works in progress. The going is slow because 10mm is not my shooting priority (IDPA revolver competition is).
But I have a few loads. My low power practice load is with a Berry's 180g PFP with 5.6g of AA2 under it. I don't have the chrono data with me (I'm at work). But I think it is near 1000fps and is rather 40S&W-ish. I loaded this one quite a bit until I got used to shooting my two 10mm's (G29SF; G20SF) that I bought at virtually the same time. My "fake Hydrashock" round - that very closely emulates a Federal 180g Hydrashock at 1030fps, is with that same 180g Berry's slug, 8.5g AA5. For high power, I load a Montana Gold 180g JHP with 8.2g Power Pistol. Again, no data with me, but I think it's in the 1200fps neighborhood. And I believe there's room to work this round up a little more. I've also loaded up a box of 165g Speer GDHP's with 9.2g Power Pistol. But I haven't shot them yet. That's all I have for now. I'll have more once the weather warms and I get more range time in.

13.0grs of AA-9, 180gr Speer Gold Dot. Win LP primers, and Starline cases. These average 1350 from mine, but I have a 7" barrel. Accuracy is usually around 2" or less at 50yds if I do my part. I usually load the light 135gr up to around 150gr with AA-5, then from 150 up to 175's with AA-7 and everything else with AA-9, cases and primers same as above. I haven't done anything cast in this one yet. But when I do I will probably use something along the same lines for powders.

Montana Gold 180gr FMJ for practice rounds, Hornady 180gr XTP for deer. Power Pistol or 800x powders.

Lately it has been 800x, 4756, longshot and blue dot.
My accuracy loads have been 10.4 grns of Blue dot with a Remington 155 JHP to 1.254. 8.3 grns of Power Pistol with a 180 grn MBC LTCFP works well also. Since I bought 8 lbs of 800x that is what I will be shooting out of it for a while.

10.4 grains of Blue Dirt under a 155?
I shot my first loads of 10mm yesterday. The charges were 11.0, 11.5, and 12.0 Blue Dot. The brand new hand-lapped Shilen barrel was disgustingly filthy after just a few rounds. The 11.0 loads sprayed trash down the length of the bore and I could tap partially burned powder out of the case. The 11.5 was better but the 12.0 burned the cleanest. Cleanest is relative since a patch through the bore after 5 rounds came out looking like a full day of Bullseye shooting. |

Not to thread jack, but
Clark,200 gr 800X triple compression 1.3" OAL Same as 40sw If I am reading you correctly, are you loading .40s&w like this? I have thought of loading the .40 with a 200gn. Wondering if it has been done!

Montana Gold 165gr hollow point with AA #7
I don't remember the amount of powder used but it is .2 gr over starting load. I found that load to be most accurate in my gun. Cycles 100% of the time and launches the brass pretty far. |

Feets,
10.4 of Blue Dot with a 155 is very accurate in all of my 10mm's. Yes it is a moderate load, but sometimes accuracy trumps bark. Try it some time. I find that with I can do my best work with my 10mm's in terms of raw accuracy. All of mine like it as a load. I also tend not to worry about the gun getting dirty. I am going to clean it anyway so why worry. It is the target that matters to me and here 10.4 does nicely.

10.4 of BD under a 155 is below minimum in my Speer manual.
I can only assume you've had no problems. |

No problems for me.
As an aside, it is above the starting load in Hornady, Nosler, Sierra, and Lyman. The only current manual I could find that it was not over the starting load was Speer. Since I am normally using Winchester bullets, I tend to think of them as similar to Nosler or Sierra so I use there manuals mostly for data. Out of idle curiosity, what is the make of your bullet?

I blew it by ordering Barnes 155 plated TC. Now I need to find a lower pressure charge without using up all my 45 ACP powder for the 10.
This is destined for a Contender. I do not have to worry about pistol function or magazine length. |

used to
I used to load bullets from 135g up to 220g; I loaded them from 1,820fps to 1,340fps.
I used to load them for my custom Glock, and for customers.

Feets,
That is the difference. You are using plated and I am just jacketed. I think some of speer bullets are plated but thickly plated. Regardless, with the bullets I was firing and my guns, 10.4 of BD was exceptionally accurate in my guns. I use 800x for full power 10mm loads.

I ran through 750 Nosler 150gr JHP's back before I truly learned how to chase bullets in large bulk purchases. Most of those slugs were sent down range with a 9.4gr charge of Power Pistol. Good shootin' load, but I never put them through a chrono and I doubt they were huffing really hard. Power Pistol absolutely has a way of giving more blast & fireworks than comparable powders, so it makes everything "feel" more energetic than it likely is. The experience also left me with a solid opinion on Nosler .40cal jacketed bullets:
extremely well-made and consistent, quality, good-lookin' slugs, but they are absolutely on the slender side and when I had any brass with tension/bullet pull issues, these bullets were simply not safe to use. (that means YOU R-P head stamp 100mm brass, and even more so, YOU ya stinkin' R-P head stamp nickel plated 10mm brass!) ^The story is true, use it to your benefit. Later, I settled on two different 180gr FMJ slugs, choosing whichever I could get a decent purchase from. Either Zero or Precision Delta. And since that time, I've been through thousands of them. Most were sent out at a middle-of-the-road 1,057 fps average through my stubby 3.78" Glock 29 barrel, this being an 8.2gr charge of Power Pistol. Many, many, many of these fired. Frankly, before putting them through a chrono, I really thought that load would be "faster." Anyone with chrono experience will likely tell you how common that is. Once again, Power Pistol has a way of "adding" to the experience and you see & feel action that your perception may equate to bullet speed. These are good, accurate loads, but they are not 10mm barn-burners, for sure. I snagged a one-pounder of IMR-800X because that powder simply has the reputation of SPEED for 10mm. And if you do enough snooping around, you'll find that some folks go over published max with this powder. It may or may not be worth noting that the published max STOPS at a 30,000 PSI rating, so it was a bit of incentive for me to also push beyond that published max. I won't say where I loaded it (that's for you to explore on your own!) but I took my 180 grain bullets to a 1,205 fps average and was satisfied that it was a very nice, accurate, safe load. But the powder is irrationally difficult to deal with and won't meter through any device other than an automated scale, so I'm simply done working with it. Still, the chrono often makes you wanna chase some speed, so I ended up doing that quite easily with Hodgdon Longshot. This powder meters beautifully AND I can use it for a bunch of other fun loading projects, so it's what I like to load 10mm with these days. My same 180gr FMJ slugs (from either manufacturer) clock an honest 1,204 fps average through the same short-ish 3.78" Glock 29 barrel when pushed with a 9.4gr charge of Longshot. That load is very near, but just a smidge under Hodgdon's published max. Please use anything you've read here with CAUTION and work toward any load with care.

I have a G29SF and the 180g is my bullet weight of choice. If I want to push them to high velocities, I reach for the Power Pistol. I'll pass on the "corn flakes" (800X). Power Pistol looks and meters exactly like Bullseye. It's a derivative of Bullseye, so it's no coincidence. I'm just getting started with working up 10mm recipes, but so far, Power Pistol is showing a lot of velocity - as it does with every other caliber with which I load it.

Okay, let me try to express what I meant a wee-bit differently.
It's been my experience (or more realistically, it's been my perception) that if I've got two loads running the same bullet at very similar speeds... the one propelled by Alliant Power Pistol is likely to have more BLAST, FLASH and perhaps even FELT RECOIL. I don't know if that is the gospel truth, I certainly don't have the equipment to "test" that theory. I just know that when I'm running a load concocted with Power Pistol, there's not going to be anything mamby-pamby about it. Not saying that Power Pistol doesn't deliver or doesn't make great loads. I love the stuff. I truly have only one genuine and serious complaint about Power Pistol: they don't make an 8-pound container of the stuff. 4 is the biggest. I think that's senseless.

Best single 10mm choice: N350.
Accuracy potential extremely high. Low flash signature. Clean. Easy metering. Works well wiith all bullet weights. High velocity potential. But I don't use just one powder for anything....

Power Pistol makes great high-recoil practice rounds. It's not really suitable for true defense loadings because it's so darn flashy.
