Victory Smith plus new hammer and trigger?

I've got a Victory model S&W. I'd like to replace the trigger with a smooth one and replace the hammer with the later Model 10 type that doesn't block the sights. Do I have to replace both at once? Can I do this without permanent modifications?

The Victory model S&W is a long action and the late model M-10 is short action. These parts do not interchange.
