1911 curiosity

Just wondering if anyone had experience with the sig sauer 1911 tac-ops or that new colt marine corp 1911, as well as the ruger version called sr1911 and their thoughts on how they stack up with there being so many 1911's out there.

Not all Eppie. Only the ones that the public is willing to overpay for, such as the rainbow encrusted P238 for $800. The 9mm 2022 is twice the pistol in every respect and can be had for $400 and change. It is an unbelievable bargain. Same with every manufacturer. The most commonly overpriced model has to be the 1911 regardless of the make. People want it, even though for 9 out of 10 there are better choices.
You don't happen to be from Epping NH where SIG trains people do you? Where is that smiley emoticon when I need it

I have the Colt Rail Gun, from what I understand it is essentially the same as MARSOC's M45 CQBP. It is hands down the best 1911 I have yet owned in terms of fit, finish, accuracy, and reliability. I have put ammo I've every flavor from steel case FMJ to ZMAX to Golden Saber, 185gr and 230gr.

I put 300+ rounds through it with plenty of lube and zero cleaning before I got a failure to feed. I swiped the feed ramp clean and continued shooting another 50 rounds with zero stoppages. She was down right disgusting on the inside when we got back from the range that day, I cleaned her up and she's still running like a tank. I firmly believe that as long as I clean her up every 100 rounds or so, jams will be few and VERY far between.

For comparison I have owned a Taurus 1911 and a Springfield Operator, the Taurus would only feed FMJ reliably and the Springer couldn't make it through 3 mags of anything without needing the feed ramp swiped clean (polishing the feed ramp probably would have solved it but I sold it). Neither one shot as accurately as my Colt has.

For 1911s that can be had for $900-1200 I don't believe there are many that can top it in any respect.

This is just my experience and opinions with it as an owner and up and coming 1911 nut, YMMV.

I have a Sig Nightmare 5". I haven't had it long. Probably has maybe 400 rounds total through it so far. I ran about 150 through it today. So far it has been 100% for me on three different outings.
I have seen nothing so far to make me believe that Sig's 1911s are not at least as good or better than others in the same price range.

I will probably buy another...I have my eyes on the Scorpion.

I have a $800 Remington. It is only as good as I am, which I believe is the case with most of us. The design is 100 years old. All patents have long expired. I believe also that the profit margin on the 1911s is higher than on most other models. That what overpriced is. Not the price tag itself, it is just right when someone pays it.

I cannot comment on your Colt. But how much does it cost to build a Norinco in PRC? It has to be their most profitable firearm this side of AK.

I own a Ruger SR1911... I love it. It has been absolutely flawless so far. I have just over 1K rounds through it since I bought it.
I have no experience with the others you mentioned.

The Truth About Guns did a pretty in depth review of the Sig 1911 Nitron (the "basic" model). The condensed version is; when it runs it's great, but it doesn't run.

I have a Sig 1911 Extreme and love it. Like any other 1911 they have a preference for mags. Mine likes the factory Checkmate hybrid supplied mags and all the Checkmate hybrid mags I purchased as extra duty mags. I have not tried any other mags because I have not had a reason to. It had a light, crisp, clean trigger right out of the box and has yet to skid a beat. The only thing I changed was replacing the factory night sights with the new Trijicon HD sights and replaced the fire control group with Wilson Combat Bullet Proof parts (not necessary at all). I gave $800 out the door for it new on the last day of the Fort Worth gunshow last year. Worth every penny...

I have experience with the 1911 Tac-ops. Its a quality build and is a tight 1911. It groups wells and has not malfunctioned in nearly 1000 rounds. If i had a complaint which i dont is the aggressive front checkering. It will shred a gold ring in no time.

I appreciate the blogger's honest observations. However, as with any gun (and any product), you can't rely on a single review or even a couple of reviews. Everyone makes a lemon. The questions are (1) how many guns have significant problems and (2) what does the manufacturer do to fix it.

I have a Sig C3 (2006 0r 2007). After the first 100 rounds, it ran great. I learned that it came with a barrel that was part of a bad batch from the barrel manufacture. I sent it back on Sig's dime and they had it back in a week plus staked the plunger tube better. I carried it quite a bit until I got something I liked even better. It is now my "backup" carry gun in the even my primary gun goes down. I would personally not hesitate in buying another Sig 1911.
