single stage trigger??

I love the remington 700 action and always will, however, the x-mark pro is something I could do without. I know all about the Rifle Basix, Jewell, Timney, and the like. My question is, is there a single stage trigger setup for a remington 700 that is similar to the Winchester M70 triggers. I have a M70 XTR and Westerner and these two rifles have the most crisp break and consistent pull weight as any I have seen. Again, this is ONLY my opinion. I also know that this would call for replacing the sear and the trigger. So with that said, does anything like this exist or will I have to fab my own? I recut the slot for less sear engagement on my M70 Westerner. 9.25 oz. Perfect for bench work. Thanks in advance.

I don't have an answer without doing some side by side. Do you find you can't adjust the Timney to get the feel you want?

Of all of the three I named, Timney is the one I have the least experience with. I have shot two guns with them, but they were heavier than I'm use to. I have never done any work to one.

If you're using the 700 for just bench work, Timney makes a tactical trigger that adjusts down to 4 oz.

Even a #510 Timney is much better than the 'X-Mark Pro'.

Hunter318,

The Timneys are adjustable, so if you tried one that felt hard, it just needed adjusting. The standard 700 trigger can be adjusted down to 1.5 lb. That's lighter than I like in the field, but then I am used to 2-stage 4.5 lb service rifle triggers, so it's up to you. If you want it lighter than 1.5 lb, then the special trigger mentioned by Hoghunting could be acquired. I am more concerned that the crispness and travel felt comparable to the Winchester for you. If it did, making the adjustments will take care of the actual drop weight. Instructions for installing and adjusting the Timney's for Remington 700's are here.
