My Browning X-Bolt Review

So my wife and I purchased "his" and "hers" rifles to deer hunt with at the same time. We both decided on the same rifle and picked up the Browning X-bolt. Mine is chambered in .308 and hers in .270.

This is by the far the most accurate rifle I have ever dealt with out of the box. Both rifles are holding amazing groups at 100 yards. Basically touching each other. We did not shoot farther at this time but will in the future. The fit and finish is spectator and the weight, balance and control is just perfect.

I'm not sure I'm sold on the plastic magazine yet but it seems to work well so far and seems heavy duty for plastic.

We have owned many other rifles in the past and have handled a lot. But, I must say we are very impressed and happy with our Xbolts and have no buyer’s remorse.

I like my X-Bolt too. I bought one in 7mm-08, a Micro-Hunter.

What kind of groups have you got from yours?

I bought a wood stocked X-Bolt hunter in .308 at the first of the year. Using my hunting load (150gr. Sierra Pro Hunter over Varget) I get consistant sub minute five shot groups off a front bag. I have a target in my reloading room that's ten rounds in 0.82". I keep it in 2 inches at 150 yards unrested prone. Beyond being very accurate, the gun handles superbly. Light, very well balanced and just seems to point itself. I'm 61 and have been in this rodeo a long time and this is by far my favorite hunting rifle. The only knock I have with it is the overly complicated bolt. I highly recommend this rifle to anyone.

I own two Browning rifles and have hunted with one of them for 21 years and I have nothing but good things to say about them. They are quality, accurate rifles.

I have the A bolt medallion I bought in 1995, in 7mm-08, love it. It's knocked down its fair share of deer. My shooting at 100yds isn't the greatest with any of my guns, but it puts all the shots in the center ring, I just can't clover leaf them like most can.

Those are some nice looking rifles! Not knocking either caliber choice (I love a .308 more than anything), but what is the story on why you picked those two? Just curious.

Thanks. They are easy on the eyes.

I wanted .308 because of short action, ballistics and it is sexy.

My wife had a .270 before and she just had a comfort level with it. Who am I to argue? It wasn't much more technical than that.

No I bought the rings and scope separately. The rifle takes x mount rings which get bolted Bowen in 4 points instead of two. Nice ridged setup.

I like the finish you have better then the gloss finish I have on my a-bolt. I've got a lot of dings in the finish and I will have to strip it all off to repair it.
