What is your State official name for it's CCL ?

Kentucky, the official name is " Concealed Deadly Weapons License" aka CDWL.

In MI its Concealed Pistol License (shall issue). It used to be a Concealed Weapons Permit (can issue). I am told the old Concealed Weapons Permit is still actually on the books and have been cautioned that a Concealed Pistol License ONLY covers pistols while the old one was broader.

License to Carry a Handgun or LTC. It was previously Concealed Handgun License but the Legislature struck the word "Concealed" from the law as part of the legalization of open carry, then switched the other words around.

There are still a lot of references to a TX CHL online, including the TX CHL Forum; I suspect it will take some folks years to switch everything over and rewire their brains to the new terminology. (I don't follow the TX CHL Forum closely enough to know whether a name change is proposed.)

In Washington it's a CPL (Concealed Pistol License). The older CPLs say "License to Carry a Concealed Pistol" on them instead, and some precincts are still using the old cards when issuing CPLs. But it's officially called a CPL by the state and that's what's on the newer CPLs.

On my state-based grassroots political forum, we often write OLTCACH when citing ORC, but we lovingly refer to it as a "CHL."

It drives me right up the wall when folks (in any state) call it a "permit" because it just... well, if you care about how I feel, you'll figure it out. The last time I brought up that annoyance in this forum, everyone took a soft, warm, corn-filled dump on my point of view.

FL is CWL, Concealed Weapon License so it is not relegated to only carrying a handgun. It allows the concealed carry of a variety of weapons.

My Florida permit says "Concealed Weapon or Firearm License - State of Florida"

My Pennsylvania permit says "Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms"

In Illinois it is a CCL, Concealed Carry License.

Sevens if a license is official permission to do something and a permit permits one to legally do something, what is the difference?

In Pennsylvania it's a License to Carry a Firearm (LTCF). Shall issue state, Single page app. cost: $20. No License needed to open carry except in Philly. Restrictions for transport unless you have a LTCF. Issued by your County sheriff except for Philly. In Philly issued by PD. Some sheriffs issue on the spot. Max 45 day wait.

Cannot carry during a state of emergency without a LTCF. State has preemption.

South Carolina it's a CWP (Concealed weapon permit) but it only covers handguns.

As noted, PA = License To Carry Firearm

FL = Concealed Weapon or Firearm License

NH = Pistol/Revolver License

CT = State Permit To Carry Pistols and Revolvers

Can't really tell you as I would have to find one and read the exact information. I have a buddy that I think, has one and not sure if he would lend it to me, to make sure I have the exact description. .......

As I said, MY TAKE wasn't popular last time, but anyway...

I really... REALLY don't think of it as "permission." Even the word used here turns my stomach. Govt is not "the King" and I am not a subject. The way I see it, it is a regulation, yet another tax levied upon me, this particular tax (supposedly) covering the (bloated, mishandled) cost associated with the BCS and FBI checks involved with the process here in Ohio.

In my opinion, nobody is "permitting" me to do anything and I begrudgingly admit that they are regulating my right... not even to carry it, but to conceal it.

So I much prefer to call it a license and yes, I admit that I get bitter when someone calls my Ohio License a "permit."

I hope that some might agree. I support everyone's inherent right to disagree.

Also known by its label: "Iowa Permit to Carry Weapons" according to a sheriff I saw on the news.

Question for those whose license/permit uses the word "weapon" or "weapons":

I know that the Florida permit allows the concealed carry of firearms, knives, and (I believe) other "weapons." For the others that use the 'W' word -- does the license or permit allow only the concealed carry of firearms, or does it also allow for the concealed carry of other weapons (such as knives with blades longer than [___] inches?

Sevens I understand your position and respect your passion. With that said, by definition a license is permission given by an authority. With all due respect, your take isn't popular because it is wrong. With your license you are permitted to LEGALLY carry a concealed weapon. Ain't any other way of spinning it.
