Electronic ear muffs?

I went shooting recently with a friend of mine and he had a pair of electronic ear muffs.
"What was that? Say that again? Huh?"

I was very impressed with them. Can anyone recommend a particular band and source? I'm looking for the best pair the best price. Thanks all.

Peltor is the only brand I have experience with, but they are great quality from the top to the bottom of their product line. A bit on the expensive side, though.

I bought a pair of Howard and Leights for about $50. Love them for the price. I am sure there are better ones but I am very happy with these. And now after trying them so is my wife, my neighbor, his wife, and a few others.

I bought a set of Pro Ears and they didn't last twelve months so I replaced them with Peltor and have had no problems in five years with them. I just change the batteries twice a year.

Peltor, Howard & Leights I have had success with. My favorite are a cheap pare of Silinco. They cost me 35 bucks and have worked for 8 or 9 years now. The only thing to look out for is if you shoot rifles a lot, some of them are to bulk to use comfortable.

I did a search to see what the minimum recommended NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) should be of the ear muffs for shooters and found that 28db NRR was the minimum. Most ear muffs do not reach that minimum. However, the manufacturers each have their own methods of rating so it may be impossible to really compare.

Another issue is that you need more noise reduction during indoor shooting than outdoor shooting.

Once I get my NRA Instructor's number I'm going to order Pro Mag Gold - NRR 33 since www.pro-ears.com offers a one time discount to NRA certified instructors.

I have a pair by the name of "Radians" for 2 years and like them very well. I have used Peltor, Walker and another brand but can't remember the name.
At the time I could only afford the Radians but liked the walkers.
But looking back and for the money I will stick with them!

At this point the only way I would change or buy a new pair is to get the behild the head style.
The over the head is oK with a ball cap but does play well with other style hats.

I have a pair from MSA, a gift so I don’t know what the cost but when the guy next to you on the firing line has a compensator you wish you had more protection. I wear earplugs as well which defeats the purpose to some extent. The technology and quality is great but...

I've been using the Peltor Comtacs II for about a year now and I am not satisfied at all. They are ok when shooting .22LR outdoors, but a session of 9mm indoor just won't happen. I tried it in a outdoor booth with my .44Mag and my ears rang the rest of the day. The Comtacs are what the military use here in Sweden, so I thought they'd do the trick...

I only use the (non electric) Peltor Bullseye III now, and if I plan on a longer session like a PPC 1500 match then I use ear plugs under the Bullseyes...

I have had positive experience with the MSA/Sordin Supreme Pro X. (Experience as in a small group of issued sets.) Absent the need for coms, it does all I have expected it to. Coms are an ugrade, iirc, should you require it.

Peltor's are fantastic but avoid the 6.5 model if you run into it. They have a habit of dying in the right side like mine. It's a common problem. The other models are all good.
