Cerakote vs rust?
I've got an old model super blackhawk with some rust on the grip frame. I want to have the grip frame and ejector housing cerakoted to look like satin nickel.
Will cerakote prevent rust, even if rust is already present? (Assuming the gun smith removes the existing rust, of course.) |

Ceracoat is paint. If existing rust is thoroughly removed, and the paint properly applied, it will prevent rust.
As long as the paint covers the surface it will protect. If it chips or scratches, no protection in those spots. Last edited by Bill DeShivs; July 27, 2013 at 01:39 AM. |

If you're going to do it, have it polished, taking out all rust and pitting, then coat it. If rust is left under the paint, there's a possibility of it getting worse, or a least causing the paint to not adhere well.
