Ridiculous.
I paid right around $505 for the Blackhawk, and something like $489 for the GP100. I believe Crankylove paid even less for his SP101.

I was able to get mine from a local shop (not known for killer deals ) for $530 before tax. That's for a used GP-100 with very light use and a hundred bucks worth of Mag-Na-Porting already done to it.
Now, I call it "hundred bucks worth" because you'd spend just under that if you dropped it off at MnP in Michigan, but you'd have to add $20-$35 for shipping if you sent it. But realistically, you can't put a price on "custom work" that's already been done to a used gun...especially when you didn't order or ask for that custom work. Does the porting make a difference on my GP-100? I'm sure that it does, but it's difficult for me to relay how much, or to what degree. I'm not a full-out handgun recoil junkie, but I find that recoil bothers me a bit less than many folks. I never would have even considered Mag-Na-Porting this revolver considering the chambering, but I don't mind that it's been done. A GP-100 on .327 was on my "heck yeah" list, but I wasn't actively searching for one when this revolver jumped out of the case and in to my right hand. When I got home with it, I ran some Gunbroker searches and found two of them available. One new, one barely used, both were right around $620 before shipping and FFL fees. Funny how sometimes a used gun deal presents itself. I'd been to this shop a half dozen times in the last 2 years and never found anything that I'd even consider. But this GP that came home with me was sitting RIGHT NEXT to a H&K P7 PSP tagged at $749 and firm. That's another one I'm on the lookout for...but I know that I did the right thing on that day. And looking back 7 months later...now I really, really know I brought home the right one!

Well I picked mine up at lunch time! SP101. Since Ruger is dropping it, I figured now is the time. Got it for $500, not great, but in the current market not too bad either.
I was in there Friday looking at it, and their revolver case was full. Went there today, and there were many missing, including my .327! The owners said they sold 5 or 6 Ruger snubbies on Gunbroker over the weekend. I asked (with a sinking feeling in my gut) "including that 327?" She said, "No, that guy over there is looking at it". He handed it to me and said it's all mine if I want it. So that was that. Now to find some reloading supplies. |

I had my GP100/327 out shooting a couple weeks ago. That reminded me how sweet it is. If the 327 stays limited to the current feeble offerings of the manufactures, I'm guessing factory ammo will become expensive and hard to find in the future. Please tell me this isn't happening to our beloved 327's? Fortunately reloading can keep the true niche enthusiast in business.

In my [admittedly limited] experience with the cartridge I was of the opinion that handloading is the one truly discernable benefit the .327 possessed for me. Using plated and cast bullets I could load it to moderate levels as cheaply as I load 38s and even cheaper than 357s and have a blast all afternoon. I sold my SP-101, but kept all my reloading supplies...just in case Ruger announces the long awaited .327 Single Six at the SHOT Show next month. |

GP-100's in .357 Magnum are fantastic guns, but there must be 3 million of them out there. WAIT! Ruger just made 20,000 more of them while I typed. There must be 3,020,000 of them out there! Point being... easy to replace a GP in .357.

The only complaint I have about the SP101 in 327 FM
The front sight is marginal to poor. I have the SP101 4" version in 357 Mag, and it sports a fiber optics sight that is much better. Has anyone mounted either a fiber optics or tritium dot (like Big Dot) on the SP101 in 327?

I'm putting fiber optics on my 632 - not a SP101, sorry.

I see that Hornady is making a 32 Mag Critical Defense round. Wonder how that will compare to the 327 rounds. However, it sounds nice for my 432.

My first reaction is .... WHY would Hornady make a current technology high-dollar defense brand in the .32 H&R Mag when the .327 Federal is obviously available...
But then it occurs to me that the FTX bullet used in that round simply won't stand up to the irrational velocities possible with the .327 Federal? I wonder if that's the answer.

Hornady Critical Defense 32 H&R Mag
80 gr. FTX
1150 FPS 235 Ft. Lb. of energy at the muzzle. Not bad, comparable to 38 Spl. |

In .327 Federal, you could send that same slug out at 1,500 FPS.
It would probably turn itself inside-out BEFORE it hit the bad guy.

I put myself on the notification list at Midway for the round. If ammo ever comes in, maybe I can try it out.
BTW, stopped at Bass Pro on the way home, the entire handgun section of ammo was out except for 45 LC. Same with 223 and 308, no 22 - some of the 17s were there.

I have a Ruger sp101 3 in 327, had it about 2 yrs. I handload 32H&R and 327 shoot cast bullets. This is a fun gun to shoot. It has crimsontrace grips for around the house at night. This is a multi- functional tool and Idon't intend to get rid of it

Front Sight for SP 101 in .327 fed mag
Colorado Redneck, I installed a Standard Dot Tritium from XS Sight Systems for the Ruger SP101 chambered in .327 Fed Mag. Specified Model #RV-0001N-4, which is .180 high.
It's taller than the Meprolight, I suppose to compensate for a barrel that has less circumference than the .38s and .357s. Was nothing on the mfr's website to differentiate b/w the two calibers. |
