Wal-mart Winchester super x2

I stopped in the local walmart to get some 9mm wwb and noticed they had a winchester super x2 in the case for $400. I thought these were more expensive firearms. Is winchester making a new "budget" version for sale at wally world? It was matte with synthetic furniture (also black)

That gun is no longer on Winchester's site. I'm guessing it's discontinued now that the SX-3 is out and I seem to remember the least expensive of the SX-2 line was $599 (don't hold me to this.)

In any case, that's a heck of a deal on a SX-2. I paid $328 at Wal-Mart more than a few years ago for a discontinued synthetic Model 1100 and I've grown to like the SX-2's better.

My SX-2 Waterfowl cost me $750 used when they were listing for $1200 and selling for $900+, but it's a 3.5" gun and camo'd.

I believe that X2 reciever is now the same as the FN self loading police shotgun. I have one of the FN's and it is great. A friend of mine has an X2, and it's just as good. I paid $800 for mine. I would grab that gun.

Likely it's on closeout because (a) WM is no longer selling firearms, once current inventories are deleted, and (b) as mentioned, the SX3 is now out. So yes that is a good deal on an SX2. However, I personally would not own a good shotgun with ugly black plastic furniture on it. A cheapie shotgun, maybe...a Winny, no.

But at that price!? Actually, I like the matte finish and synthetic furniture for field use. I have enough "pretty" shotguns....What I wanted is a reliable auto-loader.

I ended up purchasing it. From what I can tell, I saved about $250-$350 depending on who you ask.

Good deal on a great gun. I think you're going to love it.

I googled up a couple of old posts on 3.5" black synthetic guns - one was from 2004 and the purchase price was $750, and one looked like an ad from 2005 or 2006: Winchester SX2 Black w/ Dura-Touch coating on the stock (a tacky clearcoat that's great in the rain, etc. - JT) [511034246] $790.00

Yeah...I can't shoot it until the weekend, but I am looking foward to it. I had a 20 ga. 1100 that I sold and I wanted a 3" 12 ga. so this looks like the ticket!

Reliable gun? One thing I didn't like about the 1100 was the o-ring troubles.

btw...on the inside off the reciever on the top, what is that notch cut for?

Johnbt....how does your gun do with light targert type loads? That is mostly what I will shoot with this (clays)

On second thought, you're right - I *would* have bought it - I spoke too soon. You can also switch out the furniture...... Congrats!

I haven't tried any target loads. I've only used 2.75" and 3" Hevi-Shot and steel loads and two #8 lead low brass 2.75" shells. They ejected just fine. I haven't bothered trying 3.5" shells at all FWIW.

I am curious because it is mainly what I intend to shoot out of this thing. My bud's seem to work just fine shooting clays...I don't ever remember a jam or any problems. However, I know that the sporting model comes with two different pistons.

What's the difference between the SX2 and SX3? I wan a semi-auto for 3 gun match use and the sythetic stocks are just fine for that. josh

In 25 words or less, the SX-3 has a lightweight magazine tube and a couple of other parts that are different - IIRC it weighs about 1/2 pound less than the SX-2. I'm doing this from memory, so do some research if the weight difference is a significant factor for you.

Sx3's have better fitting/slimmer furniture and a different/tougher finish. The 3.5" weigh 7.25 lbs as opposed to the sx2 at 8 lbs+. The 3" sx3 w/ a 26" barrel weighs only 6.75 lbs.
