Gun signs on front door: deterrent or target?

Hey wondering what everyone's take on these signs that people post on their doors and lawns

Obviously these are only 2 of many examples but this is the idea.

I feel in cases it can act as a deterrent to scare of would-be BGs who do not feel like chancing their life that night. But I also feel it can have negative effects. One it can warn those BGs and allow them to prepare to wage war inside your home. The other con I worry about is when you are not home BGs see that sticker and now know there is a high chance that home has some nice firearms they can steal.

What do u all think? Also would u think the 2nd sign "warning, I don't dial 911" could cause some problems with your defense in court if you ever had to defend your home and use deadly force?

I think it's asking for a burglary targeting your firearms. Not to mention some shyster telling a jury you intended on killing, as opposed to just stopping a threat, should you have to use it some night. Castle Doctrine or no Castle Doctrine, it's just a potential issue in a courtroom. The media would love it.

Signs are made for advertisement.

With the exceptions of a 'beware of dog' sign (that's mostly for the overzealous UPS or utility person coming to the house) and the 'No Trespassing' signs...I don't advertise.

Agreed. I did have a comrade in a bad neighborhood who once put up a body target with the center shoot out in the window for a week, after a series of night break in/robberies at gunpoint.

I'm not really into signs.

OTOH, my 50 and 60 pound dogs have very noticeable barks. People don't seem eager to test whether there might be an associated bite.

I'd put barking dogs over signs any day, for deterrent effect.

I won't put up signs like that at my place. They might act as a deterrent, but they do advertise that I have guns.

Can be brought up as blood lust if your good shoot is crappy. As for example, you light up the drunk teenager from next door who staggers into your door. Then you panic.

I read a post somewhere that stated a house had been a home invasion target. After the incident the people armed themselves and put up a sign on the door stating they had guns and would shoot anyone who broke in. Supposedly every other house in the neighborhood was raided but them after the sign went up. So I suppose in this case advertising worked.

I love those signs, however I would post it ONLY inside my house or in the backyard (if it is closed off and hard to see).

If they were to break in and then see a "This home is protected by the 2nd Amendment" sign, they might have a change of heart. Or freak out and allow you to take the upper hand.

Edit: Long story short, IMO don't blatantly advertise outside, but being playful or tactful indoors won't hurt.

The sign goes on the inner door. To see it they have already broke in the porch so what the heck. If they still come on in well ... you know.

Extending the thoughts of some, would that mean no NRA bumper sticker on the car sitting in the driveway? Same as a gun sign.

For me? Yes. I've got an NRA hat, but no signs on the door, no bumper stickers on the car.

I don't have any advertising stickers or signs. Not into advertising. My NRA sticker is on my range box (with a few other stickers, of course). Most people are surprised when they learn I have guns, and even more surprised when they find out I carry.

Dogs really are the best way to go. mans best friend, acts as a deterrent, also acts as a free early alert security system so u know those BGs are coming before they even get to the front porch.
