Stock decisions...
I am about to commence restoration of a Lee Speed Rifle. It's unique because at some point it was rechambered from .303 to .22 Hornet, and according to the proofs it was done BY BSA. They even removed all the .303 markings and restamped it for the Hornet. Anyways, the stock is a little rough, and I was thinking it would be nice to have it duplicated. Well the best price I've found for that is just under $500. That's actually more than I paid for the rifle. I'm wondering if it would be less expensive to have the stock stripped and refinished professionally, maybe see if some of the dents can be steamed out or something. Anyone had anything like this done, and can you recommend anyone for the work? I'm trying to decide which way to go with this and I'm kind of lost. Any input is greatly appreciated.
