PROFESSIONAL G'smith services needed - cut bbl/mount flash supp.- rifle

Looking for someone to cut bbl on Mini 14 and provide and permanently solder a flash suppressor to make bbl minimum of 16.5". Already have barrel band front sight. Friend's gun and he wants what he wants. Go figure.

You would be better off threading the barrel and use a screw on flash suppressor

True, but to get the bbl length down to OAL of 16.5, the screw on would have to be permanently attached or it becomes an illegal short barreled rifle.

That was during the gun ban, you can buy 14 inch barrels all day long to screw on flash hiders. I have a 11.5 inch with a 5.5 inch FS on it and its legal.

But a rifle bbl still has to at least 16" "permanently". If you can screw that FS off with just a wrench leaving 14", ATF considers it a short bbl rifle requiring the $200 stamp.

BTW, I have a shop that can cut/thread/solder, I just need the flash suppressor now. What is the difference in the outer diameter of an AR bbl vs. a Mini 15 bbl?

When you go to buy it there will be the thread size and the OD stated in the info. Just measure where you want to cut it and get the one closest to that size. If he has a lathe he can blend it in so it looks like factory. Are you going to have him pin it so it will be easy to change if you ever want too? I want to do mine if I ever get caught up.

Per federal law minimum legal barrel length of a rifle is 16 inches
For a 14.75 barrel to be legal requires a 1.5 inch barrel attachment silver soldered or welded
Any thing else is a SBR which requires tax stamp
Shotguns are 18 inch

you'd better check your info. IT IS NOT I repeat NOT legal to have a barrel on a rifle less than 16 inches.
the assault weapon ban has nothing to do with NFA firearms and shot guns less than 18.5 and rifles less than 16 ARE NFA firearms. I kow the rules because I am an 07 FFL(manufacturer)

I guess what I was saying is I blind pin mine instead of heating up the barrel, Its not easy but you can get it out if you want to change it later. During the gun ban it was hard to get threaded barrels.

you can blind pin all you want but you still have to weld over the blind pin or it is not "pernenent." I tig them as it does not heat as much as other forms and the heat dissipates quickly
