Lefaucheux pistol caliber??
I know this has been discussed before but for some reason I can't get the search window to stay open. I have a Lefaucheux revolver about an 1850. I want to reload some pin fire ammo for it. It has been checked by a reliable gunsmith and given the ok. I want to make sure I have the correct caliber before I order the expensive components. The six cylinder bores measure .33" in the rear and .30 in the front, the muzzle also measures .30. Is this what is referee to as their 7mm or.32 caliber? Does anyone have a suggeston for componants?

It sounds like the 7mm round.
It wouldn't be a 9mm, the bore is too small.

0.300" at the muzzle. Is it groove diameter or land diameter? Did the smith slug the bore to determine? The groove diameter is the key, and you need to slug the bore to measure.
For an old revolver like that, it is actually quite simple. The cast bullet should 0.001" to 0.002" bigger than the groove diameter. The throat (front) of the cylinder hole should be the same as the bullet diameter. You may need to ream the cylinder to fit the bullet and the casing. -TL Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk |
