Applying for C&R License?

Ok, so I may be beating a dead horse but I've not been able to figure this out through searching. I just got my application for C&R license from the BATF. My father has had one, and said he never had to do fingerprints. But in my envelope I got 2 applications, 2 print cards, and a couple other forms I'm not sure of. The C&R application says nothing about prints. Did I just hit the wrong button when requesting it online?

i ordered c&r paperwork and only got a green 4 or 5 page form,have not done nothing with it yet-but will this week.i was thinking the same thing-is there a finger print card or anything else?
i guess i will just send in the form.
(hope more guns get put on the c&r list and become avalible!!)

Without form numbers it is impossible to say whether you ordered the wrong forms.

I didn't get any fingerprint cards. I got the form numbers from the same link posted above and looked over the site before ordering. I just recieved two copies of the application (They only allow up to two, got an extra incase i messed one up) I think it was two ages double sided

I have never gotten finger print cards with my application for the original 03 license, nor any of my renewals. Never heard of that one. Maybe you ordered the forms for a class 3 not an 03 license.

And they also sometimes screw up and include the fingerprint cards with the C & R license applications. If you were applying for a Class 1 license, for a gun shop where you'd be selling firearms, you need to submit the fingerprint cards. On a C & R license, it's not required.

does anyone have to come to your house for an interview? I sent in my paper and about a week later I got a call from an FBI agent saying she needed to interview me which should take about 2 hours. It was during work hours, M-F and I did not want to waste a vacation day, nor am I too comfortable about inviting an FBI agent into my house. I canceled my application and got a refund.

That's the craziest thing I have EVER heard when getting a C&R license. It is handeled by the BATF, not the FBI.
You sure your pals aren't pulling one on you.
It will be interesting to hear from you who actually shows up. Hope they bring beer.

I've never heard of anyone undergoing an interview with ATF for an 03FFL. And the FBI has nothing to do with issuance of any type of federal firearms license.

Heck, my interview for my 01FFL (dealer) only took 45 minutes. It would have been done in thirty, but i kept asking questions.

My BS detector is going off. Either one of his "buddies" was pulling his leg, or this guy is.

Well, while there's a whiff, background checks on the federal level are done by the FBI. So one could imagine that if something odd pops up, the BATFE uses FBI agents, who are actually doing those things on a daily basis, to drop by to clear things up.

I'm sorry, yes it was the ATF, but it was for sure them wanting a 2 hour interview during work hours and I did not want to take the time off, nor am I too willing to have an ATF agent in my house. (not trying to hide anything, but I live in NJ where sneezing the wrong way might be illegal - never been in trouble nor looking to be). I had a refund issued for my fees, so I know it was not someone pulling my leg.

That's very odd ccwNJ - I've never heard of the ATF wanting to do an interview prior to issuing a license, but I guess that there's a first time for everything.

Of course, New Jersey is sort of a world of its own - I probably don't need to tell you that!

BATF does do interviews in New York and New Jersey in order to explain the limitations on the Type 03 FFL in those States. It shouldn't take 2 hours though.

yes at my residence. I was under the impression too that it was as simple as filling out the paperwork then getting it in the mail. If I knew there was going to be a 2 hour interview required, I would have not sent in the paperwork.

I'd like to find someone else that recently got a C&R in NJ and see if they were required to do the same.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, what can you actually do with a C&R license in New Jersey? A casual perusing of the Internet seems to indicate that even with the license, all firearms have to go through a dealer - as if a C&R license essentially means nothing in New Jersey. Is that correct?

It is unlawful to sell, give, transfer, assign, or otherwise dispose of or receive, purchase, or otherwise acquire a rifle or shotgun, other than an antique rifle or shotgun, unless the purchaser, assignee, donee, receiver, or holder is licensed as a dealer under New Jersey law or possesses a valid Firearms Purchasers Identification Card (FID), and first exhibits the FID to the seller, donor, transferrer, or assignor, and the purchaser, assignee, donee, receiver, or holder signs a written certification form that identifies the purchaser, his or her address and FID or dealer’s number, and states he or she presently is not disqualified from purchase.

I'm wondering if NJ considers any C&R rifle as an antique? As for pistols, I have no clues. Maybe the same way it works in Kommie Kalifornia?

I believe it would allow me to purchase C&R pistols out of state without having to go through my FFL dealer. I am not positive of this and certainly would confirm before I ever did purchase out of state, but I mostly just wanted to have it before it may not be available any longer - for the sake of having it. I know I would still need a handgun permit to purchase.

I followed the instructions to the letter.

I sent back my completed forms (no fingerprint cards) to ATF on 7/15 and received my C&R license on 8/2. No interviews, calls, etc...

And I live in Massachusetts, which is about as anti-gun as a state can get.

Your state & local laws will come into play even though it's a "Federal Firearms License." There is plenty of help available, but usually finger prints are involved.

I think "rarely involved" would be more accurate. Unless you live in some socialist republic like Illinois, or somewhere in the East!
