Pulling Berdan Primed Ammo
Hey guys just had a quick question. Is is safe to pull Berdan primed ammo with a kinetic type bullet puller? I have a bunch of surplus 7.62x53r lying around and was just wondering if it's safe to pull.Just to see how the process works and maybe see how much of a variation there is between individual bullets, powder loads ect.
thanks for your time.

Yes you can pull down Berdan primed ammo with a conetic type puller,
use your seating die to press in the bullet deeper to break the seal ( it opens the crimp and loosens the sealer on mil. ammo ) I have found that the powder charge varries geatly in the ammo from the same lot or sealed tin ( as much as 1.5 grains ) My best results have been with resizeing the neck of the pulled ammo just be shure to remove the decaping pin from your die !!! ( some dies do not have a removeable pin, for these I puchased a new decaper/ expander rod, and cut the decaper pin off of the rod ) (If you have a lot of ammo to do it is much faster to get a collet type puller) I just did two tins of 7.62 X 54R Albainian surplus ammo (880 rounds) (it reduced the patern from 30 nches to 6 inches at 200 yards) Was it worth the all the work? -- for me yes |

All right thanks for the advice. The surplus ammunition I got was from J and g sales. It's Albanian light ball, bet we have the same stuff.
