Safety Switch issue

Hi Guys, I am a newbie to the AR-15 Platform, I just purchased a M&P 15 Sport and was doing some minor upgrades (Such as replacing the grip handle) I was watching video and followed all instructions but for some reason when I put the selector spring back into position, it does not go back into full safe mode? I have taken it off 5 times and tried to redo it all with no success? Can anyone possibly help me with this issue? Thank you in advance!

Welcome.

No offense but is the hammer cocked?

The safety lever on an AR15 will not rotate to "Safe" if the hammer is down (in the fired position).

That would be my guess too. I had a moment of confusion after I field stripped and cleaned it until I realized that. My Savage Mark II is the same way.
