But, P series SIGs feel very solid to me.

I'm picking up a P229 tonight after work, looks very much like the pic posted by plouffedaddy. P229 w/SRT, short reach trigger, night sites and new style grips, 2-15rd mags and box for $720. Used but not fired. Although I'll probably change the trigger to the standard reach. Feels very much like my P225 with the thinner grips and I love my P225.

I own them all and the P series Sig Sauer is the highest quality production gun you can buy. All my HKs's are reliable and solid but nowhere near the fit and finish my Sig's have.

Give that SRT a trial before you think about changing it out.

He's not. SIG has some confusing terminology. The short reach trigger, NOT the SRT, is basically a thin trigger. It reduces the reach to the trigger face for folks with shorter fingers. It's much thinner than the standard trigger. I find it to be unnecessary with the new grips that SIG uses.

All my HKs's are reliable and solid but nowhere near the fit and finish my Sig's have.

I'd say they're equal. I see nothing lacking in the fit and finish of any of the SIGs I have owned or the HKs I currently own.

I believe this gun has the Short Reset Trigger and a Short Reach Trigger. Sig sells a trigger that the curved part (where your finger rests) is closer to the rear as opposed to the standard trigger, this does not apply to the short reset trigger. I have pulled on a few SRTs and this particular model didnt break until it almost touched the back of the guard.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've seen the parts in the catalog.

Kinda funny, my P225 from 1986 doesnt feel loose at all and it has thousands of round through it. One of the many reasons I consider myself a Sig guy.

Thats not the SRT working, its where the trigger breaks. The SRT is what happens after you shoot a round, you only have to bring your finger back about 1/4 inch before the trigger resets and is ready to fire again. Sig also offers a trigger thats much thinner and has a shorter reach for people with smaller hands. Not to be confused with the SRT.

I picked my P229 up a little while ago. It does not have the short REACH trigger but does have the SRT, and I'm diggin it! This is the first slim grip that I got my mitts on so thats probably why I thought it had the shorter reach trigger. Anyways the shop gave me a better deal than I thought originally. The price tag said $720 plus tax and AMEX fees (I had a gift card), I paid $700 OTD with box and both mags. The guns looks barely used if at all, theres no grit in any cracks and the barrel is clean. I'm happy to say the least. I snapped some pics but the lighting is terrible so I'll do it tomorrow outside.

Just stare at it awhile...how could you not want one...my $500.00 used 229. Of course it costs more now since I added the TFO sights and new factory grips/screws.

Pros:
- 100% reliable so far, lubed with TW25B (shooting factory 115 gr, out of MecGar mags)
- like the control layout better than any other semi
- takedown / reassembly is easy and sensible
- I paid $465 for a used gun that was obviously maintained well
- holster wear gives it character

Cons:
- for my application, there are none, other than the fact that I shoot better groups with a 1911

I realize that the SigSauer P2xx series isn't for everyone - hey, it's a big, old, heavy combat pistol. My vintage has no rail. I'm ok with that, I happen to prefer big old heavy combat pistols such as the 1911 and Beretta in addition to the SigSauer.

FWIW - Amsdorf had a bad experience in reliability with a P226 which may affect his opinion of them. I hope SigArms makes it right so that he and his son can enjoy the pistol.

P229 Elite Dark. Worth every penny. A tack driving weapon that continues to impress. It fires every piece of garbage ammo I can put through it and does it extremely accurate.

I have a Sig P228R in 9mm that I LOVE.

The 229, imo, is just as great a weapon (I'm just a 228 fan for the slightly slimmer slide).

I, sadly, have never had the opportunity to shoot .357 Sig...desperately hoping that with several new job opportunities on the horizon I can begin to shoot it.

We got some pretty guns being posted here! I'm gonna add an Elite Dark to the mix in the future, however I think the Elite Dark is gonna be a P226, I like to do bowling pin shoots and target shooting so the P226 will play that role.
