I just bought a Ruger 77/22 in 22 Hornet for hunting grounhogs on some of the smaller farms around my area. I've settled on a load that drives a Hornady 40gr VMax at about 2900 fps (guestimated velocity). 2 kills so far this week. 1st was a hog at about 150 yds. A head shot instantly anchored it. Bullet performance was dynamic to say the least! I shot another one today at just short of 200 yds. It was a body shot. No exit wound but the insides were mush! The hog dropped instantly and actually appeared to be pushed back upon impact. I am amazed at the performance of this cartridge/load combination! I didn't expect this much performance from the old Hornet.

Anyone else have good Hornet stories?
