loaded some 38s last night

i got bored so i went to the bench and and put together some 38spl reloads... i found a few hundred cases i forgot i had while looking for rumage sale stuff..... i wanted to try a new load so i went with 3.5 grs. of bullseye under a 150 gr. homecast bullet... i'm really curious to see how accurate they are from my model 27...... i need to get some more of the plastic ammo boxes somewhere... i can get em from midway but they cost more to ship em then they cost right now and the salesman there told me last spring he wouldn't do that.... i was at scheels in des moinse last weekend but forgot to look for em... oh well they aren't going anywhere soon...... has anyone tried this load and what do you think of it?

That load shot like crap for me. I don't think it was the load though. I'm pretty sure I have undersized cylinder throats that need opened up. (Newish 38 that I'm just starting to load for.)

That load works for me, or at least one close to what you are proposing.

3.6 grains of bullseye under a 158g LSWC.

It should be fine, if your gun likes it? If you have the cylinder problem in that caliber, you can go to www.cylindersmith.com and get the cylinder reamed for $37, including S&H, I believe? Check their current prices.

Thanks Nick. What do you think about a guy buying reamers and doing it himself? Doesn't sound like it'd be too hard.

I'm new to reloading, and have loaded about 200 bullets so far. The only powder I have used is Unique. The load I've used for .38 spl is 4.0 of Unique with a 158 LSWC.

How does Bullseye differ from Unique, as far as shooting? I've been wanting to try different powders, but cost is a factor, so advice here would really help!

I've loaded thousands of 158's with 3 grs. of Bullseye for my M-14. On the last batch I increased the charge to 3.5. They work just fine. You shouldn't be disappointed..............Creeker
