Remington 870 wingmaster

Ive placed a down payment on my new (for me, really used)remington 870 wingmaster 30" 12ga .

I found this at a pawn shop. its about 85-90% cond cosmeticly .

Im paying $300.00

Ive found these online for upwards of $750-$1100

Did i just find a great deal?

I dont know if this will help anything but the serial is bs11892

I dont know too much about shotguns. this will be my 2nd one. i had a new england firearms single shot 20ga(the ones walmart used to sell) i got from a friend for $50 (stolen:barf:).

Thanks for any help!!!

EDIT: im including the remington websites for both models i think it might be

The Pawn shop salesman said it is a 30" barrel (I did not measure it) and he said it was a wingmaster

now from my reaserch i found that the wingmaster classic trap is the only 870 with the 30" barrel.

the regular wingmaster only comes in 28" and 26" barrels.

heres the links:
Wingmaster: http://www.remington.com/products/fi...ster_specs.asp

If it is a "classic trap" it will say it on the side of the reciever. Yes, the classic trap typically has a 30-inch barrel. The wingmaster trap also has better than usual wood and usually has a gloss finish. It also should have a monte carlo style stock (with a raised comb.)

It it my opinion that wingmaster traps shoot somewhat flatter that what most think of when considering trap gun patterns. If yours does that will facilitate its usefulness for games than trap.

I believe you are correct on the price I see them for sale, used of course, in the $600-$900 range. You link to the Wingmaster Trap is the gun.

Post a picture when you can. Does it have removable choke or fixed choke?

I'm assuming fixed given its manufacture year.

Your gun was manufactured in January 1969.

Let us know how you like it after a couple rounds of trap.

You did well!! Cosidering what a new Wingmaster costs, you did well. The shotgun should last a couple of generations if cared for.

That would be the magic of The FiringLine Forums.

Actually, there are several repositories for Remington manufacturing dates, including the Remington website.

300.00 sounds great to me,as long as it looks and shoots where you point it,and goes bang when you pull the trigger,(with a live shell chambered of course).

it having a 30" barrel may have been a barrel that was bought after the fact. if its not a classic trap, which from your reply of magnum wingmaster on it its not. they came with a 26" or 28" with a 30" barrel available loose for more money. mine was bought with a 28". it sounds like you have a great deal coming to you,a wingmaster magnum for 300.00 .

Derek:

I answered the question regarding worth in my first post. It is extremely difficult, OK, impossible to put a value on the gun without a lot more info: condition of bluing, pitting? is the rib straight?, is the barrel straight, condition of wood..............pictures, pictures, pictures.

I prefer Remington's 11-87. My arms don't have to move as much between shots.
