Marlin XT-22 Magazines ?
I received a sweet deal on a new marlin xt-22. And I have just spent the last hour searching the web for extra 7 round mags for it. I found none available. One site said model 925 mags would fit also. Anyone know who might have them in stock ? Thanks

I guess I did not state my XT is chambered in .22 long rifle. The .22 mag and .17 mags are different. I found lots of them while searching but none for the XT-22 in long rifle. In this time of buyem up madness its hard to imagine that SEVEN round mags have been sucked up too. The search goes on....

I use post 96 Marlin 795 magazines. I got the XT-22 and later picked up both a 795 and the 795 25rd bananna magazines and after some trimming on the 25 rounders, they work in both the XT22 and the 795. I think you need to search for marlin 795's and you you should be fine. I have found them in both 7 and 10 rounds, although the 10 rounders are not common, and pricey. That XT is one of my favorite 22's. The bolt really smooths out after some use, and once I found the ammo it likes best, it is crazy accurate. You can also take it apart and lighten up that trigger. Tons of fun.

marlin mags
Hey Aarmel,
On those 25 rounders, how much trimming did you have to do to get them to work? I tried a little trimming and my Promag 25 rounders still didn't fit my XT. |

It was not too bad. I had to remove the metal plate from the wood stock, and that opened up a lot of space. After that on the side of the mag that has the flat spring on it, I had to grind off the plastic, about 1/4 inch. Then I put some epoxy over the gray to clear junction and they worked great. I stopped using them when I got a boyds evolution stock since I am not about to start cutting that thing up! Now they are relegated to the 795 which functions great with them. Another thing you may want to know too, is my accuracy greatly increased with the new stock. Huge. But the length of pull is shorter, darn near uncomfortable. The evolution stock floats the whole barrel out unsupported. Even though it has a sporter barrel and not the varmit, or bull barrel, the accuracy has been phenominal.

Here is a link to the mags I am using. You can see really well the part that is facing you with the spring in it. The top clear (nearest the gray that goes in the magwell) needs to be ground down. I got it down to about where the spring anchors inside. Then I used some epoxy to cover over and smooth the grinding marks, and went all the way around the juction between the gray and clear portions. |
