Help: How tall should my Scope Rings be for AR15 A-3 flattop upper?
Need Help: How tall should my Scope Rings be for AR15 A-3 flattop upper?
Just purchased from Midway a "DPMS AR-15 A3 Flattop Upper Assembly 223 Remington 1 in 9" Twist 20" Bull Barrel Stainless Steel with Free Float Handguard Product #: 486925 How high should my scope rings be for a 3X9X50 1" tube scope? Don't want it higher than needed but no so low as to be unusable. I am looking at Burris or Weaver brand Picatinny-Style Rings. Any additional thoughts or suggestions would be great. My choices are: Ring Height: .520" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube) Ring Height: 3/4" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube) Ring Height: 1" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube) Thanks, Lemmon |

I use the Burris XTR rings that are 1" high. The 3/4" is just a little too low.

According to the Midway USA scope ring height guide, a 1" tube scope with a 50mm objective, ring height should be at least .270".
A 30mm tube with a 50mm objective, ring height should be at least .300". I have always mounted my scopes as close to the barrel as possible, but with my flattop I couldn't get a good cheekweld with the scope that low. I ended up putting a .50" riser under the scope rings and have been very happy since.

Thanks all, I ordered the Burris XTR 1" rings this morning. I trust the Burris product as being a very good product. I will post my results once I get all the parts together.
