45 ACP load
Picked up a couple hundred .45 Montana Gold 185 gr JHP's for target loads in the 700 - 800 fps range, using Universal clays powder. Trouble is, both reloading manuals I have, Speers and Hornaday, don't mention this powder for this load. Any ideas? Also, C.O.L. for this bullet. Thanks.

Hodgdon has data listed for a Hornady 185-grain JSWC, seated length is 1.195inches. The charge is 4.9 grains of Universal Clays for a velocity of 981 fps.
It's difficult to find data for 185-grain bullets for the velocity range you specified because pistols with standard recoil springs will not cycle well. I've loaded 185-grain Sierras at lower velocities but have had to use a lighter recoil spring. |

Your input is appreciated. Think I'll try the plinker load for now and order the .45 Loadbook from Midway.
