Shooter Choice Bore Cleaner

Has anyone ever used Shooter Choice Bore Cleaner. I was thnking of buying some as I am out of Hoppes #9. Feel free to advise something different.

i have used only shooters choice product for the last ten years, could not be happier-bill

I used Shooter’s choice when it first came out – it seemed to be OK, nothing special about it. Sweets 7.62 seemed to be the best for copper removal back then also. Today we have much better products and there are several on the market. Myself, I’m currently using Bore Tech products – namely the carbon remover and Cu+2 for copper removal.

If you decide to try the CU+2 for copper – just be advised you need a jag made from aluminum, stainless steel or similar material, as the normal brass jag will give you a false positive for copper before the patch is inserted into the barrel – that’s how fast that chemical works.

I've used Shooter's Choice for years and am very pleased with it. I feel that it's a bit more aggressive than Hoppe's is, which cuts down the cleaning time for me.

I've been using Hoppe's No, 9 for over fifty years and see no need to change. A half gallon can lasts me nearly two years.

Call me "old school", but if it 'aint broke, don't fix it... I have always used #9 with great success but that's just my opinion.

I use lead bullets in my revolvers and it seems the Shooters Choice does a much better job at getting the lead out than Hoppes #9.

Try either Outers or BreakFree foaming bore cleaner. Haven't tried them on lead fouling, but they both work well on carbon and copper. Bonus is virtually no smell and less mess.

I'm an MPro-7 user, but Shooter's Choice would be my next choice if I couldn't find MP-7.

I've been using Shooters Choice about a year now, and I noticed the same thing.

I read some reviews on Midway from a couple people that claim Shooters Choice can damage stainless steel barrels

Do you guys leave Hoppes no 9 in your bore to prevent rust?

If I want to clean the bore down to bare steel, I use Boretech Eliminator. That will take out all the copper. But lately I have decided that most of my rifles seem to shoot better if I leave some copper, so I have gone back to using Butch's and Shooters Choice to take out the carbon/powder fouling, and of course some copper will be removed also. Of those two I like Shooters Choice a little better.

My use of Hoppes No. 9 is limited to serving as a bore solvent; not as a rust-preventitive/preservative and certainly not as a lubricant Though I'm sure that No. 9 would help keep rust at bay, I think that there are many other products readily available on the market that are better suited as a preservative, both in the bore and on other metal parts.
