I sold my SW 686 two years ago. Needed the money to help pay for some vet bills. Great gun, but I don't miss it. I do miss the .357 though. I wish SW still made the Model 66. Would love to get a snub nose version of it. Wouldn't turn away a Model 19 either.

I only have one 357, and this is it...

I achieved my best shot group ever with this gun, 6 rounds through the same hole about1/2 inch from the red, and one round through the middle, all shot double action from 7 yards. This round also makes pumpkins explode and shower everything withing 20 yards with orange goo. No other round has ever made me as happy to shoot as the 357 magum. The noise, recoil, and crazy accuracy make me a fan.

The Highway Patrolman was a Model 28. It came with 4 or 6 in barrels. A very small number came with 5 in. barrels, but they are uncommon and sought after.

I don't think Dirty Harry ever carried a Smith .357 Magnum. And the first Dirty Harry movie was released right before Christmas, 1971.

Dirty Harry very briefly walked through a combat course with a 4in Colt Python in Magnum Force (1973).

The M66 is post #44 is gorgeous--especially the grips. I have an old M66 that looks nowhere near that good, but it shoots great and is one of my favorites.

I would love to have a Coonan...maybe one day.

First gun was a new SP101 3". Everybody on the internet recommended shooting 38's "until you get used to it." That was fun, I guess, but when I pulled the trigger on my first .357, time slowed down. The shock wave literally rolled dust bunnies down range. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

Empty. Reload.

And then I shot off another 50 until the webbing on my hand demanded that I stop. It was wonderful.

Yep love the .357, but more and more enjoy the M29 44 mag. Again. with mid range loads so as not to beat up my aging hands. Lots of fun and versality in the 44 maggie also.

I love the 357 magnum, my online name is the roman numerals for 357.

I know here I will get some flack but my favorite 357 magnum is a Desert Eagle. 10 rounds of 357 magnum is pretty cool. The only down side is that its about as hard to CCW as an 1970s model Buick.

No flack here. I like the Desert Eagle in .357 magnum also. I have the 10" barrel and take it Coyote hunting. No it does not conceal well, but I find it is easier to carry than a rifle. Without the 10" barrel it is my 'Night stand gun'. My Desert Eagle XIX has the quirk of holding 10 rounds in the magazine, so I actually have 11 rounds of .357 magnum available counting the one in the chamber. I find it as easy to shoot as a .38 Special. While I do not have a 'Favorite' .357, I do like each for the reason I bought them. The 8 shot S&W 627, the 11 shot semiauto Desert Eagle, the 5 shot S&W M&P 340 pocket revolver. The .357 magnum just might be my favorite caliber.

It probably is the most versatile gun you can own. I only have one revolver in .357mag, a Smith and Wesson 686+, but have a Winchester '94 Trapper in .357 and a Ruger LCR. I can buy .38spl and run them in all three with the 686+ being a very soft shooter in .38s but can amp it up with the mag round in both the Winchester and the Smith.
Like I said I only own one .357 mag revolver but am planning on getting a few more.

The 357 is my favorite handgun round, even more favorite than the 45 Colt.
My daily carry is a Taurus 605, loaded with Remington 125 grain JSP's and carried in my front pocket. In the console of my truck is Taurus 65 (4").
In my sock drawer are a 1959 Ruger Flat Top (6 1/2") and Uberti Cattleman (4 3/4").

When I was 7 years old my uncle let me shoot his 357mag, that was 40 years ago. I have a 357mag today.

Love it and used to have it but unloaded that particular caliber in a paradigm shift via my entire collection (story for another day). Point is I too have great respect for it (someone mentioned the carbine as well and I really like the feel of a lever-action .357, mine was a Rossi). Also like the fact that you can use cheaper $ .38sp to train/plink.

Well, almost. I really love 45 acp. Big hole, lots of blood! But still, my main carry is S&W 640 with Crimson Trace grips and Rem med velocity loads. Pull the trigger, it goes boom. If it doesn't go boom, pull the trigger again. I don't have to worry about, pull here, push there, cycle this, remove that, etc, etc, etc. if there is a dud round I guess being an old fart, simpler is better. If I shoot you 5 times and you don't go down, well aw f&*( for me.

I like the 357, I have 3 686's 4" 3" 2.5" and a J frame model 60 3". The 2.5 " and the M60 are my carry wepons.

My first gun was the S&W 686 and it is still my favorite gun and caliber. I have since acquired all caliber a from the .22 LR to the .45 ACP but the .357 magnum is still my favorite caliber!
