I don't know if this has been brought up before, but is it possible to allow users to delete their own posts?

So we'll just edit our posts, and remove all the text. It's certainly possible; it's enabled at BladeForums....

A problem with the delete is that it can totally mess up the context of a thread and give anyone contributing to the thread editorial control of posts after his/hers.
There was a person on another forum site who routinely edited his posts, not for typos etc...but effectively changed his posts meaning and context. Given he was rather contentious, he'd do this if the collective opinion went against him. At least, he didn't have plausible deniability with that big ol "edited by____ on Mar 9, 1998" As Ewok noted, you can effectively do it by editing away the text...but the "edited by" remains ------------------ "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes" RKBA! |

It's an option to do so, however you run into the problem of the person at the beginning of the thread deleting their post and thereby removing the thread entirely.
I personally like giving the users the ability to be able to delete their own posts for housekeeping reasons (read: I'm a lazy git), however, DC and Rich's points are both extremely valid in their own rights and as such, I can totally understand why the option is not enabled here. Besides which, the twits who double (and triple! (and quadruple!!)) post, aren't savvy enough to delete their mistakes, even when it is enabled! Worse yet, some of them are moderators!

Thats only because we haven't had the double secret initiation ceremony yet....we only do it twice a year and poaching bearskins is risky, plus tequila pricing is hard to predict.

Interning here is the hardest... DC pulls no punches... Hell Week involved skinning and gutting all her fish... reloading all the empties... and sleeping under 3 inches of mud! For dinner - we got to eat what we scraped off and out of the fish - while she made Tacos for the other administrators!
The fun part was the 20 mile force runs with full packs and then have to shoot freehand at a quarter at 25 yards with a muzzel loading pistol all while yelling cadences and Rich driving slowly past in his gold A/C equiped Humvee with his Styr Scout rifle on the rack in the back window... ------------------ "Supreme authority derives from a mandate from the masses.
