Cabela's Pedersoli Blue Ridge Flintlock

I am flirting with purchasing (Cabela's Visa Points) the Cabela's Blue Ridge flintlock in .50 in a few weeks. Questions-- Is this model made solely for sale thru Cabela's or obtainable elsewhere? For those of you owning one, what do you think of its' performance plus fit and finish (wood)? Is the rifle worth the $629 ("sale") being asked for it?

I thought it might go nicely with my two black powder guns-- Jonathon Browning Mountain Rifle (.50) and my Colt Walker.

Appreciate thoughts on the Pedersoli Blue Ridge. Thanks David

It's pretty much the same model as the Pedersoli Frontier Standard:

There's plenty of Cabela's customer reviews for that flintlock that are quite informative.
Virtually everyone said that it has a large, good sparking lock which is a good sign because some of the Pedersoli flintlock models reportedly don't have either.
I'm not sure what else that you can buy in a .50 flintlock long gun in that same price and quality range that wouldn't be made by Pedersoli and which you could cash in your points in order to make it more affordable.
These Pedersoli flint models can sometimes be found for sale used in the $500 price range. So they seem to hold their value pretty well on resale, especially if it's well maintained.
One drawback might be the 1 in 48" twist when shooting patched round balls at very long range, but due to having a long 39" barrel that may not really be an issue at all. And the 1 in 48" twist may actually be able to shoot some conicals with good accuracy which would provide an even wider variety of projectiles that it would be capable of shooting well.
Pedersoli's wood stocks are generally handsome, well executed and made from nice walnut. I've handled one of these models in the store and even if the walnut were plain and not highly figured, most anyone would be pleased with its quality and finish.

About two years ago, I bought one from a forum member and once I cleaned it up, it gave very good performance. Pedersolis are some of the best. As arcticap mentioned, it's basically the standard model. What I had, did not come from Cabelas so don't know if they have their own stampings on the barrel. They shoot great and are definitely front heavy. Sold it later and now negotiating for the percussion model. Yes, I'd say they are worth the money but for the most part, I still prefer the half-stocks. ....

Thanks for the first hand reports. I've reviewed the approx 30 renderings re the Blue Ridge on the Cabela's web site-- decidedly very good. I was sort of curious as to whether the barrel address had Cabelas on it.

I'm looking forward to learning to shoot a flintlock. The Pedersoli Blue Ridge looks like it will be the one.

I was on the Cherry's site and noticed the Frontier. It is close to the Blue Ridge, but the Blue Ridge does not have the brass piece on the front tip. That got me thinking that maybe the Blue Ridge was a Cabela's only model.
It's no big deal, just thinking!

The "Blue Ridge" is a Pedersoli "Frontier". Yes the Cabela's logo is stamped on the barrel. I have the .54 flintlock version. Great shooting rifle. I think they are a bit too pricey, but it is a nice gun. Well made, great fit and finish and IMHO, well balanced. If ya want one, get one.
