Share your 185gr Gold Dot 45acp loads with me.

I'm just going off a Loadbooks USA manual here.
Here's what I'm using: 185gr Gold Dot with CCI 300 primers, Remington brass, and Hodgdon Universal powder. The Starting load is 6.9 grains and max load is 7.7 gr.
My question is, the max load is only listed at 950 fps. I've loaded 230 grain bullets to that speed. In my research that I've done, I should be able to really zing these 185 grainers out of my pistol at 1100+ fps.
What do all your manuals list for load capacities with this bullet/powder combo?

What powder would you recommend for 185 grain bullets?

The Universal is an accurate powder for the 45ACP. If you want or need more velocity, you may not get accuracy at top velocity.

For your needs, AA #5 would be good for probably the highest velocity, and N340 or Power Pistol would be next.

+1

AA#5 and VV N340 are good powders to work with for that bullet, both of which have top loadings that should make around 1,100 fps from a 5" barrel. I don't think you can get there with Universal and stay within pressure.

Settle down and define a specific goal

Power Pistol and N350 give highest velocity.

AA5 is a superb 45 ACP choice; so is HS6.
