G19 holster

I have a G19 and want to carry it in the car and backpack for hiking. Also would be kept in drawer at home. Any suggestions on holster or pouch to secure it? I would want it readily available but secure. Thanks in advance for the help.

If you're planning on carrying it here's a clip that minimizes bulk and works for a friend of mine.

Get a cheap universal nylon holster like an Uncle Mike's Sidekick. They're about $20.00.

I would absolutely NOT recommend carrying a Glock using one of these clips. The Glock is as safe as any other pistol when in a holster, but due to a lack of a saftey I would never stick a Glock IWB without a proper holster covering the trigger. I have carried with clips like this before but it was on a DA S&W revolver.

I kept hearing this is unsafe, over and over, so I gave it a try with a second, unloaded 17 just stuck in my waistband, every moment I was home, for over a year and a half, and never once had the trigger drop unless I intentionally pulled it. I didnt baby it either. Even picking it up off the work bench or table, "by" the trigger, failed to get the trigger to drop.

Now Im not saying you cant get it to happen, but if your reasonably prudent in your gun handling, I really dont think its an issue.

Now, with all that said, I still use a good belt and holster, regardless of the type of gun, since its much more secure, and comfortable.

I vote for a kydex holster; it'll retain the gun pretty well if you throw it in a pack or glove box but you'll still have the trigger covered/protected.

RKBA makes very nice ones for a good price.

My pick...

For general range use, hiking & outdoor carry, Id buy a nylon Bianchi UM92-III type or the M-12 milspec holster(III or compact version).
The nylon Bianchi M-12 series has been in use by the US armed forces & military/police agencies world-wide since the mid 1980s.
You can carry the Glock 19 many ways(shoulder, tanker, SAS-drop leg, crossdraw, etc), with or without a flap, right or light hand draw.
The thick nylon can get rot or dirt but it's easy to clean with a common dish washing liquid or laundry product like Tide or Cheer.
The metal hooks may dig into your side, but to get the multi use out of it, then it's worth it, .

Kydex or polymer are worth a look too but my first choice would be a Bianchi M12/UM92III.

I recently bought a DeSantis Facilitator for my Glock 17 and I really like it.

I like DeSantis too, fits very well and works good in a drawer, on a belt or just on bedside.

That doesn't make me feel any safer about sticking a Glock in my waistband with no holster. I carry holsterless 90% of the time because I sew pockets into the inside of my jeans, the two guns I carried the most with this method was a S&W 640 and currently a Sig 232, both have DA triggers.

If anyone insists on carrying a glock without a holster, get one of these. It sticks into your trigger guard and you push it out as you draw the pistol. Alternatively the whole thing can be avoided by just using a proper holster.

I usually skip gimmicky things that tend to be more dangerous in reality than the gun itself.

Its unnecessary, but I suppose if it makes you feel better....

Hey, carry it how you want. All Im saying is, I wasnt able to get mine to do anything it wasnt supposed to do, by not using a holster, even with rough, and normally out of line for me, type handling. With normal, prudent handling, like you would with anything else, I still say its not an issue.

i have a desantis gunhide that it carries in rather well i think. Covers the trigger guard, holds the gun in place and clips to the wb and secured with a belt. The reservation i have with this clip is the g19 isnt exactly light when its full and i expect the clip to allow it to shift all over the place.

Given that concealed carry is not on the cards for the OP, I don't see the reasoning in suggesting specific/expensive CCW holster options.

As I understand it, it is simply to stop it bouncing around in the glove-compartment with an unprotected trigger or to stick in a rucksack when trailing.

For that reason I agree with Whip1: just get a cheap, durable nylon universal and it'll do everything required without costing the earth...

I'm not quite sure how the OP wants to carry it. You say you want to carry it in the car and in a backpack for hiking, but not directly on your person.

If you plan on having it stowed inside your pack and are not worried about it being readily accessible, a cheap padded nylon pistol case or the aforementioned universal holster should work fine.

If you wanted it to be more accessible, but for some reason don't want to use a conventional concealment holster (assuming you can legally do so), one of those nylon fanny packs with an internal holster might suit you.

Check out a Remora Holster. IWB, no clip, stays put. Very comfortable to wear. I switched all my holsters over to Remora. http://remoraholsters.com/

The G19 is one of the most popular pistols. Pretty much any entity that makes holsters makes it for the G19.

Hard formed plastic holsters with either button/lock or friction retention are made by companies like:

Blackhawk (also makes left hand version)
Bladetech
Uncle Mikes (also makes left hand version)
Galco

To the best of my knowledge all the above holsters depend on the trigger guard of the pistol for retention.

My Safariland holster is like the above holsters with a different release and retention. The release is a thumb lever and the retention is the ejection port of the pistol. This same holster is used by the state boarder patrol I believe.

Soft nylon holsters are under various brand labels but made only by a few. The Blackhawk version along with another maker or two, I can’t think of off hand, uses a plastic belt clip. I think the metal clip used on the Outbags holster is superior. Outbags is the actual, USA made, maker of some holsters. Doubletriple’s holster DT9W will fit the G19 along with most compact 9mm’s. Doubletriple has their holsters made in China and in the past used Outbags as a source. The Outbags made holster is a better-made holster using a thicker metal belt chip and the stitching is better too. In recent times Outbags sells directly to the consumer.
