New Zealand Red Stags

Hi there, this is a couple of red stags, a mate from work shot on a recent trip to New Zealand.

Top one is a 15 pointer, and upside down one is a 10 pointer. Sorry about the photo they were scanned off a A4 sheet of paper.

Rifle used was a Blazer in .300 weatherby magnum. Bullet used was a 150gr hornady ballistic tip, handloads.

I blurred out his face because i did not concent him to post these pics.

Here ya go. Makes it a bit easier on the eyes when its right side up. Great looking animals by the way. I'm thoroughly jealous. I want that rifle too.

Ahhh... (Jealous) A New Zealand red stag hunt is one of the many trips of my dreams... Sadly, it'll likely stay there... My wife just doesn't understand...

Hunting in New Zealand is very reasonable. Most species hunted are imported and considered undesirable. Last time I checked, a rifle permit was $10.00. No Handguns!!!

Not sure of the location, i will find out. The stags were wild and free range, but he did use a guide.

isn't that Mr Mcaw. i heard he loves hunting apparently he goes for a hunting trip every time they tour RSA. rumour has it that he and a couple of all black mates go hunting with some snr Springboks each year. some local unions own hunting lodges and they are an annual booking.

I think you may be right.

Looks like southern alps, south canterbury i would say.

By the way, my american friends, we have no deer season, You can hunt deer on any day ending in a "Y".

I "hunted" these red deer with my camera from a tree stand located at a private hunting ranch in Allegheny Mts of Pennsylvania. They seemed far more aggressive than the mule deer and elk I've observed in Wyoming and South Dakota.

Your trophy stag is quite impressive, indeed. Thanks for sharing.
