De-Resonator .260 Rem Ruger M77

I have used the Ruger .260 Rem M77 on my Whitetail Hunts in the southeast and the northwest satisfactorily but when sighting in at 100 yards every season my groups have always been 4 -5 inches spread five shots using a 140 grain bullet at factory velocity. So I sold it to my friend who had read about the .260 Rem and was inspired, but could not get the rifle to group much better than I had. Then on an outing to the range I offered to let him use a device by Limb Saver I had purchased to see if it worked on one of my 30-06 Rifles. Amazingly his group for a three shot sequence went from 4-5 inches to 2-3 inches. He still has the De-Resonator on his barrell.

I tried one on my Ruger 77 but it already was a tackhammer so didn't notice any improvement. If you had that Ruger pillar and glass bedded and the barrel free floated it might make a whole lot of difference. I also had put mine into a Boyds laminated stock.

Well there you go, do the right thing and get light in the wallet, or be a cheap Charlie and give up $10.00 and good looks for the rifle. I have to say that is an ugly thing on the barrel, but it did work.

This device cut the groups by 1/3 on my Vanguard 257 Wby mag.

If his .260 is getting 2-3" groups even with the deresonator then something is terribly wrong with his rifle. That gun should be capable of much greater accuracy than that. Rather than rely on an add-on product, I'd be looking for the cause of the original 4-5" groups.

you need to find the cause of the problem. I had an awful M77 30-06 and after some stock work it became a lot better.

So many good replies, where does a shooter look for advice about checking a stock bedding problem other than the tightness of the fastener to the action?
