Win WSL1 or AA Solo-1000 in .357 Mag?
I'm looking for good info about moderate loads of Solo 1000 and WSL1 to load and shoot in a Ruger GP100, mostly for killing pieces of paper. The Winchester and AA books I have are not forthcoming about use of these powders in .357.
(Yes, I have been loading .38 Sp and .40 for about 15 years now, and have accumulated too many different bottles of odd propellants.) AtDhVaAnNkCsE 8790 |

Welcome to the forum.
148 grain Lee Tumble Lube wadcutter (or any other, but these have proven almost twice as accurate as any other in my Smith K-frames and Dan Wesson revolvers, even if it does mean casting my own) seated to 1.300" COL in a .357 case. Taper crimp works well enough for me with these light target loads. 2.7 to 3.0 grains of Solo 1000. With a 158 grain SWC seated to 1.590 and roll-crimped, 4.5 grains of Solo 1000 gets me in the upper 800's to 900 fps ballpark with a 4" tube. Haven't worked with WST.

Thanks for the info on Solo 1000 in light .357
Thanks for the rapid and informative response. Your Solo 1000 load
for .357 is similar to the 3.2 grain target load that I've used in .38 Sp for about ten years. |

I was gearing the load to stay under 800 fps. 750 fps is a pretty common target load, but running a little faster doesn't hurt anything with solid wadcutters. The swaged hollow base ones sometimes over-expand their skirts if you don't keep to around 10,000 psi.
