Will Redding Pro series Die set work in a 550 B
I am fairly Brand new to reloading . I have a 550 B on the way ready to load 2 calibers for now..45 acp in a Super match Kimber and 40 smith in a 4" M&P.
Now I realize I really don't need redding pro series dies ..but the local gun shop is closing down. The guy is 70 and ready to retire. He said the last 4 months got his mind made up. Anyway he has 3 sets of these dies in-stock..No-one buys them to much $$$ I quess.. He told me today if I take all 3 the 45 and the 40 and 45 colt he'll sell them to me for $120.00..For all 3 calibers Total .. Plus tax of course. That's a steal My question is will these work in a Dillon ..There is no expander die but I am assuming that's the powder die I have to buy will a Dillon anyway. Correct?? So how easy will these dies work in a dillon. Do I need to buy extra stuff to make them work?? Like those gold hex rings dillon sells with the 1" wrench. would it be a mistake to buy these dies for my purposes.. I'd appreciate some advise |

I use Lee dies in my 550 but had to get the Dillon powder die for my .38. But my .45 acp I got the Lee set with 4 dies and used the Lee Powder dispenser. For the price he is offering you can get the Lee dies as cheap. But as far a I know most dies are universal and can be used in most presses

Redding dies in 550 dillon
I have a Dillon 500 Series press and use nothing but the Redding Pro dies.
Your new press will expand the pistol brass to accept the bullet when it dumps the powder. That's why that family of Redding dies are for "progressive" presses Three sets of Redding Pro dies for $120.00 is an outstanding bargain. |

Redding dies in 550 dillon
In the mechanical sense of the word the 550 is a progressive is it not. It's just progressed by hand but still progresses the casing to another stage..Just not auto matic ..Which has to be something a good engineer could modify..
