10/22 Troubleshooting

I've owned and used 10/22s for the last 30 years and never ever had the slightest problem, until now. I purchased 2ea. 50 round clips and have trouble feeding. Just won't pick-up a round and feed into the chamber. So I tried older 20 round clips and every one of 10 or so standard factory 10 round rotary clips. Same problem. I cleaned the firearm completely and I use Remington ammo. No improvment. Any idea as to what would be the problem?

There are a couple of possibilities, one of which is the magazine catch is broken or worn and not holding the magazines in the right position.

The second is that you have changed ammo and the new ammo is not strong enough to fully operate the bolt. Or you didn't really get the gun clean.

For what it's worth, I have found that using any Remmington rimfire = crap. Many others also concur.

Maybe an ammo problem. I can shoot Winchester and Federal just fine. About every 2-3 shots of Remmington (usually any kind) jams and some even hangfire.

Crap, crap, crap ammo!

Also, are you using the "teardrop" 50rd mags? Both those and the factory Ruger operate on the rotary design. Could be a magazine prob. I don't use them in mine, I use the butler creek steel lips. Hardly ever any problems.

There are lots of 22LR chamber reamers, but the Benz chamber is supposed to to be the tightest that will feed in a 10/22.

That may be with match ammo and the small magazine, but if I want to chase rodents with a banana magazine and bulk 22LR hollow point, then I use a standard 22LR reamer, and open up the Benz partly.
