If the recoil is so much worse from a mag lightweight, doesn't that imply that the amount of kinetic energy of the mag from a short barrel is also greater than a lighter load?

An important point to remember is that these things exist on a spectrum. The energy of the bullet is an important factor in how it damages a target. Depending on the target and desired level of damage, a certain range of energy will be desired. The upper limit of that range usually has less to do with maximum damage to the target and more to do with the user's perception and the mechanical tolerances of both the gun and your hand, neither of which are desirable to damage. |
