Finnish?

Hi guys, I'm obviously new to this site. I recently picked up what I thought was a "standard" Mosin Nagant, but after some amateur research I'm thinking I have something slightly different. Is this an M27? I look forward to your comments.

I think that's an M28 and a very nice one at that.

agreed. the sights, sling swivels and receiver stamps are all different from russian 9130s. good find, it'll no doubt outshoot most others.

Finnish Home Guard (SY). The rollmark on the right looks blurry, might be the Russian double-headed eagle, perhaps stamped out.

Edit: T is for Tikka.

If that's indeed the double header then the receiver is 100 years old or so. The barrel however may be Finnish made at Tikka but you could research that.

You have a Tikka-barreled M28 Finnish rifle. The 'SY' was the antecedent of the well-known 'Sk.Y', the designation for the Finnish Civil Guard. Look on the right side of the barrel shank for a Civil Guard District number that starts with an 'S.'. These are excellent rifles, and not commonly encountered with the type if rear sling swivel shown in your pic.

Addendum: I'm not sure, but I think the stock disc indicates this saw service in a Jäger Regiment. Great find-

Almost all the spam-can 7.62x54R ammo is .311 diameter. Your Mosin might have a .30 bore diameter. I'd check.
