tactical sling and case

Anybody have any preferences about what is a good quality tactical sling for the AR 15? I know its according to personal preference, but what is the difference among the 1, 2, and 3 point slings? What would be the advantages/disadvantages? Intended use would just be for carrying in the field for varmint hunting, or typical target shooting applications. I was kind of leaning towards a Blackhawk of some kind, but any other suggestions are appreciated.

Also, what have you found to be a good, durable tactical case for the AR? Blackwater seems to be pretty affordable and have good features. Thanks.

3 points are basically obsolete at this point, for your intended purposes based on your post I'd go with a 2-point. If you are doing alot of tactical shooting then a one point would be best but I think you'll enjoy a good 2-point better. I use the mag-pul MS2 on one of my AR's and it can be switched from 2 point to single in secs. It is a bit expensive though. For a good 2-point look at Vickers slings, considered the best 2-pointers by many. Also the VTAC is good for a bit less. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Tacti...ounts-s/22.htm

You'll have to explain why tactical for carrying in the field?

Myself for that sort of thing I use the two point that shipped with my Colt 6920 - and if it hadn't I'd buy a length of nylon strap from REI.

There is no use for a tight loop sling on standard handguards - must use a float tube with a tight loop sling - and similarly in the field I'm never going to turn loose the rifle to make an emergency transition to a handgun while shooting ground squirrels. Thus all I need or can use is a simple carry strap and cheaper is as good as it gets. I'd be ashamed to call Blackhawk anything but tacticool myself. Let me hasten to add there's nothing wrong with tacticool - it's a legitimate category of pleasing oneself - when it's all about fun anyway.

If you really want to justify a tactical sling - take a few courses, read Green Eyes and Black Rifles (from memory may be some variant on the name) and do the drills to see what works see Larry Vicker's site, read Gabe Suarez and others and make a choice based on other gear worn at the same time and intended application. Most folks who benefit from a tactical sling have one issued or can hash it over with others in person - everybody else just needs a carry strap - except of course SAS types who insist the weapon should be in the hands anyway.

Again for a case define tactical - I like a case that says Paintball loudly, Brownell's just put a three gun case in the line because one of the family wanted one for his own use and so it goes.

I went through this same search over the summer. I don't like the single point as much.

I settled on two point. I picked this one: Great all around sling. I have used in the way it is meant to be used, and it works as advertised. Easy to install.

Blue Force Gear: Vickers Combat Applications 2 Point Sling:

Here is a link with a better price: Great supplier BTW

Here is my mounting setup components:

Hopefully this gets you started. I think this is the all around best sling you can get for the money. Do a google search on the sling's name, and there will be some manufacturer demonstrations on mounting, use, tactics, etc. Good stuff.

I bought a SOG single point sling for my AR. It comes with the Sling adaptor for your collapsible stock. Check it out at the DPMS website. Ive taken it hunting several times in thick brush and tree stands both, and i use it when im target shooting. It holds up GREAT, it made of very sturdy components and its easy to attach/remove. it fits really well, and im impressed thoroghly with it. If you want to spend a little extra to get a top of the line, i found one i believe to be the best available, http://www.tacticallink.com/Products.aspx?Cat=5 . check out the youtube video promo for it.

Dont think youll be disappointed with either one.
