Vit. 550 w/ 155 Gr. SMK

How fast are you guys pushing the 155grain .308 bullets in the Palma matches?
I just tested a new load, I think it was too slow. It was 28 grains of Vit 550 and a 155 Grain .308, it was running 2720 FPS. Is that too slow to work out to 1,000 yards?

Sounds like your data is wrong. Starting load using N550 and Sierra 155 is 42.5 grs and that gets you 2479'ps per published data. I would imagine that 28 grs is flirting with a hang fire or a spike in pressure from powder positioning. If you don't have VV data, it's online here:

I'm using a 190gr HPBT at 2700'ps and it shoots tight at 1000 yds out of a custom bench rifle in 30/338Mag.

Sorry, I meant to say 48 Grains, not 28 Grains............
48 Grains got me to 2720 FPS.

The link you posted shows the same thing my book says for a 155 Grain Sierra Match King HPBT, start at 42.5 with a max load at 49.7 Grains which should come up to 2888 FPS.
