'How To' question

How do I remove the front sight assembly from the barrel of a Yugo 24/47 rifle? The sight and hood are mounted on a band that fits around the barrel. Will the cold/heat technique work? Thanks.

Like other Mausers the front sight is sweated on with soft solder. You need to remove the hood and the sight blade. Underneath the blade is a screw. Remove that, heat until you see the solder bubble and tap it off. George

First remove the hood, a job in itself. Then drive the sight blade out (either way, it doesn't matter). Under the sight is a small screw. Remove that and use a brass drift to drive the sight base off to the front. If you can't get it to move, then the heat may be needed. But you have to remove the screw first.
