Which tripod for benchrest spotting scope?
Is there a good tripod for your spotting scope that doesn't break the bank? I just bought a Bushnell Excursion, love the spotter but the tripod it came with is junk. I have a small Slik tripod that isn't much better (it'a a bit high and unstable). The Bushell Shooter tripod looks decent for the $50 price tag, just wondering what other options are.
I have a quality Bogen-Manfroto window clamp/ball mount similar to the Leupold version. If I can't find a good reasonable tripod I may jury-rig something I can use the Bogen with. Thanks.

I use a Bogen 3221 with a 422C ball head. It's compact enough to use with the scope I use. I've got a Nikon 80mm (20x-60x) spotting scope. Works like a charm.
Before I started shooting more, I did a lot of photography, so I bought tripods that would support view cameras and medium format. I ended up with heavy-duty tripods (Bogen 3036, 3033) and several stout heads (3047, 3262). I just picked out what I thought would do the job, and it does. You may want to sojourn to Camera Mart in Pontiac. They have about the best supply of tripods and heads around. |
