What ammo is this???

It's millitary ammo which I believe is 7.62x63 (.30-06) but I'm not sure.

Headstamp is L C 9 9

Pictures to follow

Google is your friend. M2 Ball .30-06, the standard military issue ammunition for the M1 Garand.

"Headstamp is L C 9 9"

L C is Lake City Ordinance Plant, located in Jackson County Missouri.
The 9 9 is the year of production.

It is 30-06 Springfield stuff and the round in the photo is nicely heat treated (annealed). Good stuff.

Enjoy,

Is it possible I'm reading it upside down and the date is 66? It looks like 66 when I have it turned so that the "L C" is right-side-up.

Also..........Any idea on what a fair price for it is?

Thanks yall!

66 would be a more logical option. But you have the brass and are reading the heads. I wouldn't rule out either option.
A friend of mine's grand mother lived in Sibley and he enjoyed the light shows from the testing range when they did night firings.

Don't have a clue as to what a proper pricing should be. Garand shooters would be happy with it. I know that I would.

Enjoy,

US headstamps are always read clockface style, meaning that you hold the round so that the maker's mark is at the top, and all of the elements are read that way.

You don't spin the round or read it in a circular fashion.

Good M2 ball ammo is fetching around a buck a round at shows these days. I've seen it offered at $30 a box but not very much movement at that price.

The date has to be 66. .30 M2 Ball wasn't made in 1999.
