What bullet for boars
Just wondering what would be a good size bullet for shooting boars with my AIA M10 7.62x39mm. Some help would be appreciated.

from what i've seen the hollow points dont expand consistantly, and you definitly dont want to use FMJ.
soft points are good...deep penetration and expansion. i'd go to the heaviest soft point that shoots the accuracy you need. |

If you aren't going to roll your own, these are nice hunting rounds for wild pigs, deer and other medium sized North American critters...
from Midway If you're reloading then any good 150 grain soft point bullet will do the job. Speer, Hornady & Sierra have excellent soft points that I've used and recommend.

Plain 180 grain Remington core-lockt round nose bullet knocked this boar right over. Fired from Savage model 99 rifle in .308 cartridge. Jack

Jack-
You should know by now that boars are armor plated and impervious to a 308. That pig is probably just waiting for his chance to charge you next time you open the freezer door.

with that cartridge, I would spring for commercial SP ammo, with the heaviest bullet your rifle will shoot well. Mil Surp can work, but you owe it to the animal to kill it as cleanly and quickly as you can.

don't go with hollow point. a friend of mine had a close encounter with a boar that he didn't kill in the first shot and his 9mm hollow point stopped at the ribs... hogs are tough little suckers. he shot it with i forgot what caliber and it wasn't instant kill so he was running from it and his 9mm hollow point wouldn't get to the vitals. lucky for him he beat the hog to the truck

Big feral hogs are the one game that I chase were I'd prefer a premium bonded bullet. There are some ballistic tips that offer controlled expansion, but the ones made for thin skin have been too fragile for my liking. If you are planning an ear shot it matters less.
