NCIS Background check numbers for 2013 are out.
Total NCIS background checks for the year ending Dec. 31,2013 was 21,093,273.
Florida's ended up doing 1,073,859 NCIS background checks in 2013. If you would like to know what your state did post here and I will post it. I have the numbers for every state. |

Less than half a million in Virginia?
That's VERY surprising...

There are a few factors that affect the usefulness of the data.
That said, the upward trend is hard to discount.

Kentucky had alot! That surprises me when compared to Texas that only had 50,000 or so more checks done. Interesting
Edit: I was typing the above and didn't know Kentucky ran a check a month on CCW holders. Then Tom posted his statement before me...

Hmm,
Colorado's monthly seemed to have dropped in mid-year after the UBC went into effect.... That's really weird.

Over 1.6M in Texas last year and more than 6M since Obama took office! As a Texan I say "Thank you Mr. President". You've contributed to my state being an even safer place to live.

Gun control laws have an obvious effect. Florida and New York have similar populations, but Florida has about two and a half times as many NICS checks as New York.

Interesting.
And, just to add a little more reality to the situation.... Even though I bought half a dozen firearms last year, there wasn't a single NICS check run for any of the transactions.

Kentucky, either the numbers are wrong or the people of Kentucky are my heros. Can anyone explain it?

I've heard before there's more guns in ky than any other state. I'm glad I've been able to contribute to that

1.6m in Texas. No wonder everyone is so nice to everyone. Kind of like going to a shooting range. Lots of polite people.

Even with all of its gun laws, California still had 1.3 Million. That kind of surprises me.

As Tom stated, states that have LE issuing CCW permits can forgo NICS checks for purchases. States like my home of FLA has the Dept of Agriculture issuing CCW permits so hence we have to go through the NICS check for purchases. Waiting period is waved for CCW holders or folks trading in a handgun and making a purchase at the same time.

I imagine a lot of free states have "low" numbers because of the smaller populations and the freedom to sell one's property to another in the same state without government interference.

Also don't forget that purchases made with a C&R license does not require NCIS background checks.
