Hypothetical Scenario: What would you rather have in your collection?

Let's say a family member is gifting you part of his collection, under one condition: have a collection of pistols consisting of ONLY common base models OR rare sought after variants. It's either ALL common models or mythic rare variants. You are stuck with this same set of pistols, forever.

Which collection would you choose?

I'd take the rare ones, since I'd have no qualms about shooting them. Of course, I'm assuming that at least some of them are modern pistols. I wouldn't want to be stuck with nothing but 16th-century matchlocks, no matter how rare or valuable they were.

Gift with conditions are not gifts. I would politely refuse.

trying to rule from the grave is a fool's errand.

once someone is gone, they have no more say about the world's affairs.

Is there some new law I haven't heard of that says you have to die after you give someone a gift?

Depends entirely on what they are. For I'd rather have a bunch of "common" revolvers than rare guns I had no interest in.

Since I already have guns to shoot, unless the collection of shooters was dramatically better than mine, I'd take the rare ones. That said, I could enjoy the shooters all the time, but how often would I be able to marvel my friends with tales of the rare and mythical?

I'll take the rare ones....

-----------
Now if I'm the "giver" ...and putting these restrictions on my kids...and threatening them with some kind of a voo-doo curse if they abuse, pawn or sell them...( then they will have to just wonder how powerful I can be from the grave !! )...
-------
But I'm just kidding ....( I'm actually taking all of my really nice 1911's and revolvers with me !! )....let them snatch them out of the box before the cremation fires get em...

Would I be able to buy guns later to supplement this collection, or would I have ONLY these guns for my whole life?

I like to shoot...

I might be in the minority here, but I like to shoot my guns. I'd take the common guns and plan to use them for sport (shooting, hunting,) or SD. I don't like having guns I can't play with, so I guess I'll never have a collection of "NIB - Unfired."

Nobody said ....rare ...meant new in box ...or you wouldn't fire them ??

I fire everything I own /I don't care if I pay $ 4K for it .....or $ 800 for it....yes, it was once new in the box .../ but for the most part, I throw out the box...and shoot the gun !

I does not matter to me. Without know what is in each pile, choosing strikes me as a fool's errand.

If I were being gifted pre-ILS S&W revolvers or any type of 1911s, I would say, "Thank you, kindly".

Rare ones--as long as they came with ammo.

Gyro-Jet, Dardick, Mars 10mm, Webley-Fosbery 38,
a Medusa and a Baikal MP-412 Rex come to mind.
Heck---toss in a 45 ACP Luger too, I like 45's.

And yes I would shoot them.
