Where to shoot in Tampa??

Hey. New to the forum, and just relocated to Tampa. Anybody in the bay area; and where do you shoot? Thanks.

For long-distance rifles, the only real place is Manatee. They've got the only 1000 yd range in the state.

What kind of shooting?

Shoot Straight is a good store/indoor lane rental operation.
Manatee is a good short to long range outdoor bench rental operation.
Wyoming Antelope club is a nice membership operation.

I have friends in the area and usually manage a visit right around the Florida State IDPA championship at Wyoming.

Wrong, Volusia County Gun Hunt Club has a 1,000 range. We are a private club and accepting members

I'm up in Carollwood off DM. I'm familiar w/ Shoot Straight. I frequented their Fort Myers store a bit, tho I didn't care much for their range. The a/c never worked once in 2 years, and the roof leaked. The Lakeland Shoot Straight was nice tho, so maybe the Tampa one is more like that, hopefully.

I met a guy at the gun show in Palmetto, (awesome show by the way. same dealers that frequent all the Suncoast gun shows except the 37.5 million people that show up for the Orlando/Tampa/Miami shows aren't there), who custom builds AK's and says he has a shop off Nebraska. Do they have a range there?

I'd be interested in joining a private club too if they are accepting members. I like the area (Tampa) and plan to stay.

Manatee is always accepting members. It is a little ways for you to drive, but probably worth it if you need a variety of shooting situations (7 yd pistol, 25 yd rifle/pistol, rifle lanes from 75 to 1000 yds, 5-stand shotgun, cowboy action, plus a couple of odd ranges occasionally open to members for specialty weapons (NFA types).

North of you near Hernando is this:

If you also like to shoot clay targets, then Tampa Bay Sporting Clays, Silver Dollar Trap and Skeet, Fishhawk sporting clays in Lithia are also good venues

Here's one.
They have a large selection of rentals, a very nice 25yd range and an agreeable staff:

I live in New Port Richey...
For load development, I go to the Hernando Sportsman's Club, just north of Weeki-Wachee. Pistol, and up to 100 yard. There is also a 200 Meter range, but it is only open the 4th Saturday of the month due to lack of interest

There's an indoor pistol range within a few miles (and another opening)..

But since my sons and I shoot long range, we always make the drive to Manatee. First class operation, but the drive sucks...oh well...

And there are some more mentioned in this thread. I personally have never had a SRO problem like the on mentioned at the start of these posts.
YMMV

My wife and I have used the Plant City Range mentioned earlier and Family Firearms range in Valrico. Both places are good. We are members at the one in Valrico, because it's half way between our home in Plant City and where we work in/around Brandon. It also has a great group of folks working there and they charge by the lane instead of by the person, which works great for my wife and me.

We have also been to Tenoroc in Lakeland which is a nice outdoor range, that also does archery and clays.

Here is a link to Family Firearms - http://www.familyfirearms.net/

and one to Tenoroc - http://www.tenoroc.us/

I haven't used the shoot straight range in Lakeland, but we have bought guns there and the folks were super nice.
