Clean powder
I have been reloading now for six months. 38sp, 357mag, 44sp, 44mag and 45ACP using Unique and 2400. So far, these powders have done everything I want. My question is, what are the cleaner powders being used today?

I think that Vihtavouri as a whole is the cleanest powder available.

I'm still using 2400 for heavy stuff myself, but for clean pistol and shotgun powders, I like 700-X and Clays. A bunch of people will tell you Win231, but I think it is dirtier than 2400 in my guns.

Power Pistol and Universal Clays will replace Unique with virtually identical performance while being a lot cleaner. Universal isn't real good with lead bullets but Power Pistol is decent, nothing better than Unique with lead though no matter how you twist it.
For heavy loads N110 is about as clean as you can get it and still get the performance. |

For light .38 and .45acp try Clays. Cleanest powder in my arsenal for light loads.
For moderate loads, Power Pistol and Universal Clays. For hot stuff, I use 2400.

I started reloading for 45acp with Bullseye, then moved to Tightgroup, but I'm now using Clays. Of the 3 I find that Clays is the cleanest. I shoot a 230gr lrn loaded to the minimum power factor for shooting sports clocking me at just 700.

I have no experience with .44 Spl & .44 Mag. For .38/.357, it's hard to beat 231 for a nice clean burn & great accuracy....but there are lots of other suitable powders for these chamberings that should also be clean, like 700-X. For .45 ACP, you can't beat Clays for clean; also has a nice soft recoil. I have no experience with the Vihtavuori powders, except they seem to have a stellar reputation for accuracy and clean, and a price to match.

I have only used unique and h110 for 44 mag. They both seemed dirty but the h110 was much easier to get off the gun.
