AR optics?

Just curious to what all of you AR owners are using? I'm considering an Aimpoint Micro T1 or an Eotech EXSP2? Not really needing magnification (at this point)...mainly for target shooting, boar hunting, and self-defense.

It depends.....

I've got this on the Grendel -- for work out to 600 yards
http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-s...mm-long-range/

And I've got this on the M4 -- for fast-reaction/close work
http://www.eotech-inc.com/products/sights/xps2

But I just put this one on the `95Marlin 45-70 GuideGun:
http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-s...ar-1-5-4x20mm/

...which seems to be the best possible combo for what you want.

If you can afford it, you can't go wrong with either the Eotech or the Aimpoint. Just pick which one you like better. Both have their pro's.

Aimpoint CompML-2

ACOG TA01NSN

EOTech XPS-2

Aimpoint T-1

I like the large viewing window of the EOTech. The Aimpoints have great battery life. The ACOG is illuminated, but requires no batteries. It is also magnified.

Love the Aimpoint but not the price for a range toy. Picked up a highly recomended Primary Arms red dot. It's been great, bright and holds zero well.

I am in the same situation, just got a BCM AR Middy and have only iron sights on it now. I went to an outdoor range this past weekend, and shot 25 and 50 yards to sight it in. Could hold 2-3" groups at either distance, but can't imagine shooting 100 yards (they also have 100 and 200 yard ranges) with irons. Would something like a 1-5x scope be able to be used like an AimPoint at close ranges (say less than 25yards) with both eyes open, and then be used like a traditional scope for 100 yard plus ranges?

If you can afford it then professional grade electronic sights like Aimpoint or Eotech are great choices. I just won't trust my life to a $100 knock-off because the last thing I want during an emergency is to be playing the "where the heck did my aiming dot go" game. The downside to an electronic sight is that decent magnifiers and a good magnifier mount are going to add $250-600 to the ~$500 cost of the sight should you eventually decide that you need one.

A scope with a true 1x low-end can also make a decent both eyes open CQB sight - especially one with with an illuminated reticle. But in an emergency a good quality true 1x scope with heavy non-illumined reticle can get the job done and help you bullseye hogs for less than $250 including the mount.

5.56 with an Eotech 552 (1/3 co-witness) and Hensoldt 2.5x magnifier in a LaRue flip-up mount.

6.8SPC with a Burris Xtreme Tactical 1-4x24.

M&P15-22 with Weaver V3 1-3x20. This also makes a great low-power/dangerous game scope for a 5.56, 6.8SPC, or 308.

A good "compromise" optic is a 1-4x, like the Nikon M223 or Leatherwood CMR.
Quick target acquisition, and enough magnification for at least a couple of hundred yards if you need it.

My son has a 6.5 Grendel for long-range target that sports a Vortex 3.5-10 on a Warne RAMP that also allows mounting a holosight on a 45 degree angle on both sides for up close and personal.

I'd go with the Eo Tech by a narrow margin. Mainly becouse it has a bigger field of view. Just my 2 cents. its your money

Thanks for all the input.

BTW, sholling and Ridge_Runner_5...nice set ups!

Either direction I go, I'm going to be dropping some loot. I want the option for range/target (long or close), self defense, and boar hunting. I don't want to be limited to a close distance or long distance optic on it's own. I need/want versatility, but with dead nuts reliability.

Now I must decide between:

1) Eotech EXPS-2 with G33 magnifier
or
2) Aimpoint H1 with LT magnifier

How is target acquisition with the Burris..30yds?, 200yds? Is the eye relief like the ACOG where you have to have your face real close to it?

I agree with all the 1-4x scope recommendations. I tried the other scopes but finally settled on a Nikon m223. Close work or out to 300 yards. All I need.

I have not seen the m223 in person yet, but have heard good things. Checked out the 1-4x Leupold Mark AR at my local gun shop tonight. Seemed impressive for the price?

I've looked through the leupold as well. They seem a bit nicer but when I bought the Nikon, it came with the mount for free so I made my decision based on the freebie.

I have a Nikon M-223 1-4 on one of my ARs and really like it. Nice clear optics and the 1-4 variable is just right for me on this gun.

I have an Aimpoint PRO Patrol on my BCM middy and love it. It's been on for 6 months with no ill effects. For $400 at Aim it's tough to beat.

Take a look at a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 with illuminated reticle. Best compromise of everything.

When looking at the Leupold make sure that the low-end is a true 1x. Leupold has a bad habit of fudging their zoom ranges to make them like wider zoom ranges than they really are. I'm not knocking their scopes, just their marketing.
