Crimping Question
I'm currently reloading for the .38/.357. New to pistol loading. I've got the RCBS carbide 3 die set. The seaterdie Says "TC". Is a roll crimp better for pistol rounds? And with the taper crimp, how dou you know when there is enough crimp. Thanks. Sorry if this topic has been covered recently, I didn't see it.

Crimping Question
Most people ROLL CRIMP.
I take the decapping stim out of the sizer die, re-adjust it and taper crimp all my handgun rounds. Taper Crimping allows me not to worry about trimming cases. Last edited by MADISON; March 1, 2008 at 10:46 AM. |

I roll crimp the revolver cartridges, which headspace on the case rim, and taper crimp semi-auto cartridges that headspace on the case mouth. RCBS dies usually have good instructions on how to set up the dies. If not reloading manuals usually have some good advice on the proper amounts to crimp.
It is important to keep the cases a uniform length. If you don't, the crimp isn't going to be uniform and groups will open up. |

I've never seen a 357 die with a taper crimp, always roll crimp.

The TC means truncated cone meaning the type of seating stem provided with it. It still roll crimps though.
