When this thread began I would have argued that a 26/27 would work in a pocket. I own a 26 and find it much easier to shoot than the 27 I shot before I bought. To each his own when it comes to caliber. I own a CM9 and carry it often in my pocket. Up untill recently I thought the 26 too large for pocket carry. I have found however that it carries pretty good in the Mika holster I have for my J frame. I carry not only in cargo style but also in standard khaki pants and shorts. Is there a buldge? yes. I just figure that if Im going to the mall or going to be in an urban enviorment or possibly need the use of night sites that my 26 fills the role. I am able to tuck my shirt and also able to have multiple mags available in 15 and 17 rounds.

Any double stack is too fat to be the "perfect pocket carry" gun.
See the pics in post #9 for illustration. |

The problems with the sub-compact Glock sub-compacts as pocket guns are multiple:
1) fully loaded they are HEAVY. No were near a fully loaded J .38 in lightness. You would need one heck of a large sturdy pocket for one. 2) lack of any safety allows coins, keys, pens, etc.. to get inside the trigger guard and cause a AD/ND. 3) the thick frame would make printing a possibility unless you had huge pockets and some kind of filler to disperse the outline of the pistol. Now I pack a Glock 26 or 27 (I have both) but not as pocket gun. Deaf

Nobody should be carrying a Glock in their pocket without it being in a holster - the trigger pull is far too short and unforgiving.
When a holster is added the fat little thing gets fatter, plus its already heavy. I can barely tolerate it tugging my pants down IWB with a good belt and holster, let alone swinging around in a pocket. I think its miles away from being a "pocket pistol" - just because it can be stuffed into a pocket doesnt make it a practical carry solution. I love my 27 and I might never sell it for several reasons, but "pocket carry" and pleasant shooting will never be in its list of virtues. To me its a very potent all-purpose "compact" that is truly concealable iwb while having a good round count. Last edited by Dashunde; September 5, 2011 at 09:46 AM. |

It's not a true pocket pistol, so it can't be the "perfect pocket gun".
The Diamondback DB9 is probably close to what a Glock pocket pistol would look like if and when they make one. |

Glock 27 would not make my list of top 20 choice for a pocket gun only because its WAYYYY too big for a pocket gun. Quote:

I'm still curious how this gun will stack up. The first batch should be going out in the next week or so. Might be a good choice for a pocket 9mm, although it will be a little expensive. My G26 is too big to pocket carry for me. I use a P3AT for that. It's doing the job, but is far from the perfect pocket gun.

Old old thread
I have not found the recoil to be as big of a deal as people have mentioned. The gun is a joy to shoot. |

I have carried my Glock 27 for years, both with a OWB and now a IWB holster and it is concealable under a t-shirt. I do not find the recoil to be a problem. I have always qualified 100% with this little Glock and to date it has been flawless. It will go bang when I ask it to. I do trust it protect my life and my families lives, I can give it no higher endorsement.

Just finished shooting @1500 rounds in the 22 and 27 as part of transition training to Glock. After shooting a Sig for 21 years it took a little time to move my POI from the left to center. The 27 with an extended mag works great for large hands and is a perfect pocket gun in cargo shorts.

The Glock trigger is much shorter/softer than a typical double action revolver pull.
But I agree about not carrying any of them without a holster. |

How about we settle on this: Yes, at least one mod has seen the thread. Yes, we usually shoot zombie threads in the head. This one has cropped up again and seems to have some life left in it in talking about round counts and holsters, etc. So what say we let it rock along?

"QUOTE"
1. )Anyone with arthritis in their hands or wrist. 2.) Possibly most small women or men. 3.) Elderly due to the hard bone jarring recoil. 4.) Someone looking for a gun to serve both concealed carry and target. 5.) Someone with a large hand. 6.) Someone looking for a little lighter (weight) pocket gun. ANSWER: 1. I have arthritis in my hands. 2. Male 5' 10"--weight 145. 3. Age--78. 4. Concealed carry--yes/target--IDPA & USPSA. 5. Hand--medium size. 6. Pocket gun--no it's to large for that. I shoot a Glock 27 daily--even days free style/odd days weak hand. I like it so well I've got another one ordered. Perfect pocket gun--NO. Other wise The Glock 27 is one of the best carry pistols. Had a G27 up until a few months ago when NY changed it's gun laws (). While it's to heavy and bulky for a pocket gun, it does hide and carry well with a good hip holster. It shot well with manageable recoil (especially with the Pearce grip extensions).
Now that there's talk of us "maybe" getting our 10 round limit back, I wish I had kept it. |

Re: Glock 27 - Perfect pocket gun?
I carried it this morning in a Desantis pocket holster. It was actually really comfortable.

I have a G27 and the damn thing bites my hand. After several rounds my thumb joint where it meets the hand is bruised. My middle finger also gets mangled by the trigger guard. My trigger finger also gets sore. BTW I am 6' 220 and not really that fat
I wonder if my hands are too large for this little monster. I can shoot my G21 with comfort. How about you other guys - is your strong hand sore after 100 rounds? |
